Hiring manager: I'm only looking for people with food & beverage experience. Me: I have managed social media pages for brands like SimplyProtein, provided creative strategy and consulting to Sovereign Brands, managed their influencer campaign, and helped launch Nicki Minaj's Myx Moscato line. I removed this hiring manager as a connection because her response was an immediate red flag. Not only did she not even bother to look over my resume or ask me for clarification, but she was also unaware of how entertainment and hospitality are so closely intertwined. That is concerning. If you ever encounter a hiring manager like this who won't even talk to you because you don't have X number of years in a particular field because, rather, you have experience across various fields, that is an immediate red flag. In addition, this hiring manager also failed to realize how even if I had 0 experience in the beverage field, skills transition over, especially in marketing and social media. So, note to anyone out there looking for work: for your own sanity, cease communication and block that sort of hiring manager immediately. Do not accept "I'll be in touch at a later time." They never will be in touch. The same goes for the people who say, "You have too much experience." We won't be in touch at all because you are stereotyping people, and not only is that frustrating, it is discriminatory. This practice limits people's ability to work and prevents them from transitioning into similar areas and/or careers or entirely different ones. This is the level of ignorance this talent pool on LinkedIn deals with every day, and partly why people find it so hard to get an interview. #jobs #hiring #hiringmanagers #socialmedia #notes #socialmediajobs
