As a leader, I've made it my mission to champion those precious moments when we can truly switch off and recharge. But to be real, it's not always easy. Every now and then, I catch my team sneaking a peek at their emails or shooting me a message while they're supposed to be unwinding. And you know what? It's time for a gentle nudge to remind them to hit pause and soak up some well-deserved downtime! When it comes to our nurse managers, it's even more important. They're the backbone of our team, juggling the care of both staff and patients with grace and grit. That's why it's absolutely essential to create an environment where they can truly disconnect and recharge their batteries. We must become fierce protectors of their downtime. Because when we prioritize self-care and well-being, we're not just building stronger teams – we're building brighter futures for everyone involved! #ChampionOfDowntime #WellnessWarriors #NurseManagersMentalHealthMatters #LeadershipCoaching

🧨Night duty in the hospital—while my baby sleeps at home 🏠 As a healthcare worker and a mother, balancing duty and family can feel like an emotional tightrope.(cue tired eyes in the picture ) There’s a unique kind of heartache in leaving for a night shift while your baby is getting ready for bed. Knowing they might wake up without you there… it’s tough. Today I’m on night call.. Yet, here’s what keeps me going: 1️⃣ A sense of purpose. Every patient I care for reminds me why I chose this path, even when it pulls me away from home. 2️⃣ Support systems matter. Family, friends, and colleagues who check in and lend a hand make all the difference. I’ve learned to lean on them, and it’s made this journey a little easier. 3️⃣ Embracing resilience. There are days when the separation is hard, but the strength that comes from showing up for both my patients and my family is something I carry with pride. To all the working parents who feel torn between professional commitment and family—know that you’re not alone. How do you handle the balance between work and family? P.S. Repost if you know someone who might need this reminder.

Happy EMS week to all of who serve in a type of role - whether you are a basic, medic, nurse, firefighter, dispatcher, or educator (or any other type🙂). All of you deserve so much more than just this week to be recognized for the work you do. I also want to take a moment to share and educate for those of you who do not realize the work they do. It is so much more than the physical hours and labor. It’s “going cold” and setting aside your feelings to give it your all every single call. Just to wrap it up and wait for the next call. That medic could have just finished with a call with saving someone’s spouse to having a new call needing to save someone’s grandparent. Let’s also not forget the dispatchers that take that call or the other first responders that respond to help. I remember being worried about my husband transitioning from working on the ground to going to flight. Not for the fact that he would be in a helicopter, but for the fact he would see more of the “worst case scenarios”. I worried about his mental health and overall wellbeing. However, I’m grateful that he works for a company and a team that cares for his safety and wellbeing, both physical and mental. I guess where I’m trying to get with this is yes, let’s recognize and praise everyone for what they do. Thank them. But this job is a 24/7, 365 days a year job. The scenes, the calls, the good, and the bad never are forgotten. Be sure to check in on them. ♥️☎️🚑🚨🚁 #EMSWeek #mentalhealthmatters (Picture creds to my husband and his work partner on a late night call)

The morning huddle - do you do one ? Like most people, we are constantly battling with the dark forces that get in the way of Awesome Communication within the practice. eg. part-time work, night shift workers, human personality types, technology etc. One of the biggest things that helps communication within our growing vet team was the morning huddle. So here's what we do: - Every morning, everyone who is working that day physically meets in our dispensary (don't worry - its a bright, big room) and one of the leadership team goes through any housekeeping issues, explains who is in that day (who is not in, sickness, holiday, etc), what vets and nurses in what areas, any important ops or inpatients that everyone needs to be aware of. It's short and sweet, we don't chat about life, an it gets us off to a bright start. Why it works well: - it helps everyone plan their day - we can catch the mood, adding energy if needed or empathising if there have been some sad/hard clinical cases. - encourages people to be on time - as its really obvious if you are late - we very briefly record a summary and put it onto SLACK, so that those people not there can take 30 seconds to read it on their next shift. Do you have any tips or things that you do in your morning meeting/huddle that could help make ours even better .......

It started so well and ended so badly…😫 Ok - this is not a pity post. But it is a post to remind you of the fragility of life. What started well? 😊 The weekend. I had some great news late Friday and felt happy heading into the weekend. How it went…. 🐎🏃♀️🤩 The weekend was great. I got some decent running in and even headed out on a solo off road run (which I’m often nervous about doing) and, despite an encounter with 2 overly friendly horses and a just in time run over a train track, it went well. How it ended….Sunday night watching Kings of Kings at Hyde Park. Train home, just as I’d got on the train I got a call ‘I think I’ve had a stroke, can’t get up, called ambulance but not sure I can let them in’. My world discombobulated. Cue ringing round neighbours to wake someone to help. Eventually got through. Then they couldn’t work the key. I’m trying to talk them through the locks, everyone staring at me on the train. I’m panicking now. They get into the house eventually. Another neighbour picks me up from the station, I arrive home to the ambulance I jump in it blue lighted to hospital. Things look scary. But in safe hands TF. I wait and I wait …. Yup suspected stroke. ‘Only’a mini one. I leave hospital about 3am in a cab. And now? Hubby still in hospital much improved and can talk well but with residual numbness. They are carrying out more tests as potentially a few things going on and they want to be sure everything is checked. Good. Yesterday I was a zombie and probably in shock. Today I’m much better. I’m glad I got most of my big projects completed in the last week, as I’ve got the flexibility to do hospital visits. And, obviously, input to the medical opinions with my vast knowledge 🙄 So, the point of the post? Life is fragile. It can turn very quickly. Live it. Appreciate it. Respect it. We get knocked down but we get up again. #life #hr #hrconsultant #hrconsultancy #businessowners #smallbusinesssupport #resilience
