Very interesting Section event with Gregory Shove and Juliet Bailin of General Catalyst for the "Picking the Winners in AI" discussion this morning. As someone focused on helping businesses incorporate AI effectively, efficiently, and profitably, I found Juliet's perspective as a VC incredibly valuable. Some ideas that were reinforced during the conversation: 🏆 Embracing an AI-driven culture and strategically identifying areas where AI can significantly enhance operations and decision-making processes is crucial for businesses to stay ahead of the curve. 🔏 When selecting AI vendors, prioritize those that demonstrate a strong commitment to data protection, regulatory compliance, and building trust through transparent and ethical practices. AI is everywhere and growing. Yesterday I spoke about the event I attended where prioritization and ensuring the main focus remain on the current company priorities. Well AI has changed that as every company (those that haven't already launched stuff anyway) are trying to make sense of how AI fits into their environment and is AI going to protect their data or run wild and share all of the secrets. But AI continues to grow and new companies, solutions & fancy named AI pops up every day as the race to gain the market share continues. Read this and see if you change your mind on where AI fits into your company initiatives. "As organizations increasingly prioritize AI above and over everything else, they risk forgetting that technology’s primary purpose is to solve problems." This is the main point, in my opinion, technology's primary purpose is to solve problems. I think we forget that. IT gets viewed as the "dumping ground" for being a cost center not revenue generator but I heard a panelist say Tuesday, IT is in the people business not the technology business. My approach is to collaborate and partner with IT so that the company benefits overall. In other words, my goal in working with any client is to help solve problems, not because I'm the greatest problem solver ever, trust me, I'm far from it, but because I bring an outside view with experience across multiple areas of technology, many different industries (although I do have specific industry experience - don't want to say I'm surface level across the board) and truly want to help improve a process to help a company which benefits everyone (no I'm not going into a macro-economic rant.)
