🌍✨ Migration is one of nature's most captivating phenomena, weaving a tapestry of endurance, resilience, and interconnectedness. From the remarkable journeys of the Arctic Tern, flying 70,000 kilometers, to the Monarch butterfly's multi-generational trek to Mexico, each migration reveals the innate wisdom of the natural world. In the African savannas, the Great Migration showcases the relentless pursuit of sustenance as over a million wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles travel in search of greener pastures. Meanwhile, beneath the ocean's surface, whales glide silently, following ancient migratory paths. Migration is not just about movement; it's a profound interplay of life that highlights the delicate balance within ecosystems. Join us as we explore the intricate patterns of migration that define our planet and the beauty of the natural world. Read more about this awe-inspiring journey in our latest article: [The Phenomenon of Migration](https://lnkd.in/euZ99EUJ) #Migration #Nature #Ecosystems #Wildlife #Biodiversity #Sustainability #GreatMigration #Conservation

The UNESCO – 1 OCEAN team, led by photographer and explorer Alexis Rosenfeld, embarks on a months-long mission along the wild coast of South Africa. The goal: to tell the story of one of the largest migrations of animals, threatened by climate change and undersea mining projects. From April until the end of July, UNESCO and 1 OCEAN will lead a month-long expedition off the South African coast. Every year, an extraordinary animal pulse thrills the east coast of South Africa. When the austral winter arrives, climate-induced ocean currents create a migratory corridor through which thousands of sardines rush. This marks the beginning of a journey over 1,500 kilometres long. From Algoa Bay to the southern coast of Kwazulu Natal, massive shoals several kilometres long form, obscuring the sea. Almost instantaneously, tens of thousands of dolphins, white sharks, seals, Cape gannets, humpacks and Bryde’s whales join the party, creating unprecedented scenes of predation. In terms of biomass, this is the largest animal migration. #bluetransfermation #blueeconomy #Environment

Narwhals, like the whale, are at the top of the food chain and have an important role in the overall health of the marine environment. Narwhals are also culturally important to indigenous communities in the Arctic. Unlike some whale species that migrate, narwhals spend their lives in the Arctic waters of Canada, Greenland and Norway. The Narwhal’s Arctic habitat is highly sensitive to climatic changes that result in increased atmospheric and ocean water temperatures. In recent years, it has become clear that some species that occupy these northern regions have suffered negative impacts from these changes. #TheArcticChallenge #Arctic #Ocean #Norway #expedition

Growing ocean noise levels are interfering with communication between marine animals and could have a future “catastrophic” impact on whale populations. A recent found that ocean background noise intensity had increased 100-fold since the 1950s and had been linked to increased stress in marine life, stranding events and may impact migration paths in the future.
