In the race to improve educational quality, devolving decision-makingpower to local school leaders and school districts has also emerged as a trend,often followed by increased accountability, control and inspections. While somecountries push back or moderate these global trends, others embrace them, and muchis still unknown about leadership autonomy in the various policy contexts thatemerge. Against this backdrop, this presentation reports on an ongoing PhD-project exploring collective dimensions of school leader autonomy within thebroad area of quality work in the two Nordic countries Norway and Sweden.
