We have been exploring the fascinating world of fungi genomics with our Fungi Bioinformatics Workshop using Galaxy Australia! 🍄 💻 Over the past 3 days, Benjamin Schwessinger (Australian National University), Alistair McTaggart (Psymbiotika Lab) and the team from Galaxy Australia (Australian BioCommons) took participants from across Bioplatforms Australia’s National Initiatives – Functional Fungi and Plant Pathogens – through a whirlwind tour, exploring powerful bioinformatics tools and workflows using the Galaxy Australia platform. The hands-on training hosted at ANU was attended by 38 participants from SMEs, governmental and research organisations, universities and community groups. It has been a fantastic opportunity for all to enhance bioinformatic skills, share knowledge, and connect with fellow researchers passionate about fungal genomics. We warmly thank all the participants for their keen engagement and making this workshop a success! 🍄🔬 #bioinformatics #training #fungi #GalaxyAustralia #genomics #ANU #research #infrastructure #NCRISimpact #BioplatformsAustralia #AustralianBioCommons

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 I am thrilled to announce that I am starting a new position as a student Machine Learning Researcher on Project B5, “Predicting Reaction Norms of Enzyme and Metabolite Concentrations in Arabidopsis thaliana.” This project is part of the Phenotypic Plasticity initiative under CRC 1644, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation. Phenotypic plasticity, the ability of a given genotype to produce different phenotypes in varying environments, is a fascinating area of study. I will be working on developing pipelines for gene prediction, identification, and functional annotation using advanced machine learning and deep learning algorithms. The goal is to use these annotations to build a panGEM (pangenome-scale metabolic model) that captures the metabolic diversity within this pangenome. I am honored to collaborate with esteemed institutions such as the Max Planck Institute, Hasso Plattner Institute, Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ), University of Potsdam, University of Cologne, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Looking forward to contributing to this groundbreaking research and learning from the best in the field! #MachineLearning #DeepLearning #Research #PhenotypicPlasticity #Bioinformatics #ArabidopsisThaliana #Genomics #Science #CRC1644 #NewBeginnings #Pangenome #MetabolicModeling

Institute of Planetary Survival for Sustainable Well-being (PLANETIIUM) is formerly known as IIUM Molecular and Cellular Biology Research Cluster (iMoleC) which was established in 2013. The research cluster comprised culture technology, reproductive biology, microbiology, biochemical analyses, animal study, and bioinformatics, and it managed to engage various experts at IIUM by having collaborative research and offering consultations and laboratory services. The advent of COVID-19 has taught us that health issues cannot be solved in silos but it requires the integration of multi-disciplinary knowledge to provide holistic sustainable health solutions. Therefore, in 2022 the cluster evolved into an institute that focuses on collaborative, multidisciplinary/transdisciplinary research activities which cover molecular to global approaches to enhance impactful outcomes to benefit the community and industry. PLANETIIUM aims to form the core backbone technology to provide solutions to planetary health and survival.
