THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF MUSIC Music is often part of our lives. It can punctuate our day, be discreet, be linked to important moments or moments of rest. It can also surround us without our choosing it (in a shop, for example). But did you know that music plays a vital role in our physiology, our cognitive reactions and our minds, at every age? When I was younger, my Tae Kwon Do teacher at Rhodes University often played rhythmic music during our warm-ups. Music influences the perception of effort and makes you forget how tired you are. This enabled us to last longer during sets and muscle strengthening. Moreover, depending on the music we listen to, it can have a beneficial effect on our sleep. It could make it easier to fall asleep, creating a state of well-being and relaxation through the rhythm and emotions it provokes. It also plays a role in reducing stress and anxiety. When we listen to music, we secrete dopamine (good mood) and endorphins, which act as an anti-depressant. Another effect of music is to stimulate creativity, attention and memory. Playing music is thought to enhance this effect. One of the reasons for this is that music increases the connections between the two hemispheres. Using AI in music begs the philosophical question of how music is made, who is responsible for each part of the song, and how credit should be given. Standing Strong 💪 Over the weekend, I attended the Kilby Block Party Music Festival in Salt Lake City—a 3-day concert festival that kicked off in the early afternoon and rocked on until 11pm each night, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I love a good festival, but let's be real: by the end of each night, my legs were screaming and every step felt like I was walking on glass (IYKYK). Yet, somehow, the music and the atmosphere had this magical way of momentarily masking the discomfort. 🎶✨ What struck me was how similar this physical strain was to the endurance required when working an event. Standing for three consecutive days while managing an event demands a whole different level of resilience. I get it, it’s not just about staying on your feet; it's about skillfully juggling everything—from guest management to logistics—with a smile. 😅 I'm sharing this because, whether you're a concertgoer or an on-site event staffer, there's a shared experience of endurance and resilience. The concert will take place on May 7th, 2024 in Glendale Arizona at the State Farm Stadium. Mexican Regional Is Hard To Ignore No British band is more iconic than the Rolling Stones short of the Beatles, but the key difference is that the group has never stopped touring which makes them a brand that lives on far from being memorabilia. Mick Jagger who is hovering near his 80’s is hard pressed to need an introduction anywhere, but while his youth has faded, nothing about the music’s quality has changed For some, it’s tough to conceptualize that The Rolling Stones even need to approach a different audience. Or, do the they? The band and their business managers may be noting the sea change in how much Mexican culture is being exported across the world. Hoping to cash in on the eventual European arrival, why not cross-promote may be the reasoning. The look, the feel and content of Mexican regional is unique and distinctive.
