Interesting piece to read, but I think their outlook is based on current monetary policy. Yield curve, equity growth, risk premium, these are all dependent upon the prevalent monetary policy being implemented. Should monetary policy change given a month or two from now, most of the underlying assumptions upon which their outcome/projections were made won’t exist. The market has shown how responsive it can be to a change in monetary policy or even the possibility of a change in monetary policy. Common mistakes by investors according to “Coffee Can Investing” 1. No clear investment objective: If you don’t know where you are going, you are most probably going to end up in the wrong place. Know your objective. 2. Trading too much, too often: Repeated trading usually leads to lower returns and higher transaction costs. Buying and selling might make you feel good but patience is key when it comes to wealth creation. 3. Lack of diversification: Different assets carry different kinds of risk and return potential. Learn to diversify based on your expected return and risk appetite. 4. High commissions and fees: High cost brokerage and advisory fees eat away your return. Be conscious about your expenses. 5. Chasing short term return: Most investors chase higher returns on their investment without properly understanding the risk attached to them. Don’t burn your hands in wrong investments just to make money in the short term. Learn to see the long term big picture. 6. Timing the market: Markets don’t move linearly and are inherently volatile. The belief one can catch top and bottom is a myth in most cases. Don’t be overconfident. 7. Ignoring inflation and taxes: Most investors focus on absolute return instead of looking at real returns. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Fortune’s Will Daniel on why now is the right opportunity for investors to get into bonds.
