📣 Internship Opportunity! WANTED Intern with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation "Summer internships with the ACHP are full or part-time paid internship opportunities supervised by Chair Sara Bronin or by professional staff members. Internship projects include the following: - Carry out legal research relating to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and managing or protecting sensitive information about cultural resources under federal and state law. This work would include statutory and regulatory research as well as case law research. In addition to this research, the intern would participate in all aspects of Office of General Counsel activities. - Work with the ACHP staff and Latinos for Heritage Conservation (LHC) to identify 3-5 historic sites in the Borderlands of Texas, Arizona, or California that help tell the stories of Latino heritage and history. Research each site and create video incorporating its history, why it is culturally important, and how it came to be designated. Information on Section 106 review and citizen involvement in preserving cultural heritage will also be incorporated into the video and associated outreach materials, including social media content. - Assist in identifying, naming, and organizing digitized historical records. The intern would help catalog recently digitized ACHP files, create file plans, and identify and propose key words to help build a searchable database. This work would allow the intern to learn about the history of the ACHP from original sources and propose ways to better document and preserve the digital information for the future. - Work under the supervision of ACHP’s Chair Bronin on a variety of high priority national preservation policy initiatives and projects advancing the work of the agency. This will include research and implementation tasks related to topics such as climate change, housing, and equity. Specific assignments will be developed based on current agency needs and the skills and interests of selected interns. Internships may be virtual, on-site, or hybrid. Surveying My Way: Lessons from First year to Internship I. As I complete my internship, I reflect on my journey from First Year to Internship. If I want to go detailed, I'd give a pretty interesting story and a really long post but I’d just cut to the chase and highlight a few high moments, dull moments, challenges and lessons. Stay with me. PS:This post will just reflect my journey in the First and Second Year. The thrill of First Year was surreal. It wasn’t my dream course but I discovered that as time went on, I grew to love the profession. The courses I offered during this time didn’t really seem difficult to me. I was just lectured on basic science core subjects and surveying fundamentals. Most of the things I learnt were from my personal study and with God’s blessings I aced this year. I’d say it was my best year after all. Second Year was to me, just neutral. We did a few science subjects as well as surveying courses but we started focusing more on our profession proper. It was my second semester this year I felt a little emotion because I nearly failed a course. Till today, I tell myself it’s the euphoria of my First Year that got me carried away. Ideally, the efforts you put in your First Year and consequent Years should be progressive otherwise you’d have a fall back so bad you may not recover . I learnt my lesson anyway but my grades dropped by point five points. Continued in the comments 👇

What was the most daunting thing for you when you first stepped into your career? Ecosulis are often approached by graduates or individuals, eager to start their journey in the rewilding sector but a recurring theme has emerged around feeling the pressure to accumulate a certain number of voluntary experiences to be considered ‘worthy’. “We understand the daunting nature of entering a new industry, and have purposefully designed roles, programs, and requirements to dismantle these perceived barriers.” - Britta Wicks Assoc CIPD Their programme has been so effective, that they are now starting to collaborate with Further Education providers to develop a similar initiative for site-based roles! So keep an eye out for updates on that!
