🚀 After a two-year discussion, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR) is voted ! While the final text is said to have been watered down from its initial environmental ambition, the prevention and #reuse measures show a good step forward in reducing #waste, especially as we witness increasing quantities of #packaging waste being generated in Europe (+6%). ❌ Using PFAS above certain thresholds in food packaging will be banned from 2026 🔽 Packaging will have to be reduced by 5% by 2030 ♻ By 2030, many beverages will have to be made available through reuse systems. Simpler recycling….What are the new recycling requirements? Under the new Simpler Recycling legislation, businesses with 10 employees and more must separate dry recyclables into dedicated containers and ensure food waste is collected separately, regardless of the amount produced, starting from March 2025. Businesses with fewer than 10 employees have time until March 2027 to comply. #waste #recycling #businesses Find out more here https://lnkd.in/e4P2Aj7s

🏴 New research from the Welsh Government has revealed 49% of SMEs feel unprepared for imminent changes in recycling laws in Wales, which are due to come in from 6th April 2024. 👀 If you’re part of the 49%, here’s what you need to know: From 06 April you’ll need to separate the following for collection: 🥒 Food 📃 Paper and card 🍾 Glass 🧃 Metal, plastic and cartons 👕 Unsold textiles 🖥 Unsold small waste electrical and electronic equipment (sWEEE) That means no mixed waste. It also means that you’ll need a waste bin for each of the following, and may also need a separate waste collection provider for the individual waste streams. The changes will also bring in a ban on: 🥕 Disposing of any amount of food waste through the sewer system ♻️ Separately collected waste going to incineration and landfill 🌳 All wood waste going to landfill Learn more 👉 https://loom.ly/PtM5lz8 Need help getting prepared? 🤝 Get in touch with NRC today to discover how our specialist business waste management can help your business prepare for the new regulations. From 31st March 2025, new regulations concerning the separation of commercial waste in the UK will take effect as part of a broader effort to increase recycling and reduce landfill use. The key changes include: 1. **Mandatory Waste Separation**: Businesses will be required to segregate recyclable materials, such as paper, plastic, metal, and glass, from general waste. This applies to all commercial, industrial, and public sector organizations. 2. **Food Waste Separation**: Commercial entities producing food waste will need to separate it from other waste streams, ensuring it is processed for composting, anaerobic digestion, or similar recycling methods. 3. **Improved Recycling Rates**: These changes aim to meet the UK’s recycling targets and reduce the environmental impact of waste by ensuring a higher proportion of materials are recycled. These regulations are part of the UK government’s commitment to addressing climate change and resource efficiency. Businesses should start preparing by reviewing their waste management strategies to comply with the new rules. Please contact me at natalia.wood@biffa.co.uk if you would like to discuss the upcoming changes further and see what we can do to help. #simplerrecycling #wastechanges #legislation
