My water bill was 3x its usual amount. I called the professionals. They were on time, transparent, and fixed the leak. So why wouldn’t I recommend them? Because they made a bad last impression. In the throes of my insurance claim, they ignored requests for additional details to help settle it. *** So no, first impressions aren’t everything in business. If you want to get referred (aka marketing gold), your last (or latest) impression often matters most. Yes, be responsive and empathetic to customer requests and enquiries. But you can also manufacture influential last impressions by: · Distributing content that simplifies something complex · Connecting clients to someone useful in your network · Taking them inside an important decision you made · Celebrating the contributions of your employees · Speaking (humbly) about the good you’re doing And for goodness sake, remember to use their names in all communications.
