Product-centric operating models have gained significant traction over the past decade – and for good reason! Rooted in the software-driven culture of Silicon Valley, this approach prioritises creating real customer value through tech-powered solutions, supporting long-term innovation and value creation. But despite the growing adoption of these models, the expected benefits often fall short in larger organisations. “RevOps isn’t just about plugging gaps; it’s about creating a unified approach to growth.” How true is this for your team? This was taken from Tyler Hooper’s session at Revenue Operations Summit San Francisco - where he spoke about what it takes to build high-performing RevOps teams. This insight captures a huge challenge we hear in the Revenue Operations Alliance community: Siloed functions that hold back growth instead of driving it forward. For a lot of RevOps teams, the struggle is real - getting sales, marketing, and customer success to work together under one strategy isn’t easy, especially when each team has its own tools, goals, and metrics. Tyler’s take? Don’t just patch up issues as they come. He’s all about a bigger-picture, holistic approach where each team’s efforts boost the others. The result? A more agile, aligned, and revenue-focused organization that’s primed for growth. Here’s one of the slides he shared - the attendees loved it! This is a chart I saw a long time ago and honestly it never gets old. 💡 1️⃣ I think the vast majority of dev tools end up in the bottom left quadrant. There's a simple reason. 🔧 It's a lot easier for highly technical founders to keep building – and finding new reasons to build – than to systematically get feedback. Feedback comes via consistent user research and/or doing consistent outbound sales, and they haven't built up that skillset (yet), so they avoid those tasks at the Seed stage. 2️⃣ If they land a few enterprise clients first, especially one mega one 🐋 then the startup moves over to the bottom right quadrant where they're basically an externalised department. It's a client-state then. Usually resources get sucked into serving those initial clients as well, so there's a hard brake on velocity. 3️⃣ I think the top left quadrant is where most failed SaaS startups end up instead, especially B2C. They have a higher likelihood of being led by non-technical folks. And those folks will spend a lot more time doing VISION stuff than hearing the "no" from engineering. For them, it's hard to follow what engineering is saying (and this may also be because of internal comms problems caused by engineering trying to safeguard their own time). The end result is hopeful promises and inadequate internal product discussion. 4️⃣ The solution is for technical founders to get hands on into user research, even if it's just watching videos that the public facing leaders bring back. And, inversely, for non-technical founders to stick to the script and stop mission creep when they want to promise something bigger. This is how you inch towards the top right quadrant, where you want to be. #ProductMarketing #PMF #ProductManagement

Software should be bought, not sold 🤔 What does it mean? It means; - Let your customer try your software and sell it to themselves - Create features that allows your customer to talk about it, refer it and earn by it - Create multiple expansion vectors for up-sell and cross-sell [Learnt it while building #flapX by DoorMonk] This will reduce your effort on GTM. I recently learnt that in 2020 Atlassian ran entire GTM only on just ~15% of their revenue, this allowed them to invest 35% on R&D; means each time any Dollar $ which their customer spends to buy Atlassian product they basically contribute 35% more budget for newer innovation. Which in turn brings huge competitive advantage to Atlassian, means a customer will have more chances of newer innovation sooner than their competitors and cycle goes on. Basically signs up for >>>larger LTV and <<<lower churn, practically Zero CAC. #saas #sales #AI #startup
