Christmas dinner, but at the office! 🍴 Former Chef turned Software Developer John O'Sullivan was hard at work in the kitchen since 5am this morning, prepping Turkey, Ham, Stuffing, Roasties, Cider Jus - the works! All we had to do was show up in our Christmas Jumpers! We're delighted to have raised more funds for our charity partner Vision Ireland, the new name for NCBI ...and thanks again John - Best Colleague EVER! #BidX1 #ChristmasDinner #VisionIreland #CharityPartner

400+ rejections in last 12 moths. Since the roughly year I have started in foodora we have received over 400 requests for support and sponsorships - from proms to charities, from large sport organisations to small, city-level projects. We had to... Well, no. We decided to say "no". To most of them we politely reply, to some we simply don't have the capacity to do so and some slip between the digital cracks. Some rejections are personally very painful, some less so. Why do we say "no"? It's simple. Focus. It allows us to focus not only on our business priorities but also on the 3 charitable, food-related projects and Pride collaboration that we have decided to support. That is something we are trying to focus on with our teams, to say strategic "no" to be able to say "yes" to things that matter and drive impact.

The Charity Commission have issued guidance on how to decide how to have governance meetings. And I can't help but think that this utter infantilising nonsense (which largely refers to the 'guidance' as 'rules') is exactly what is wrong with so much of the sector. I'm sure more boards will be effective as a result of knowing what to do if Elaine's internet drops out mid-meeting. Heaven forbid someone just uses some common sense. I'm sure we all feel better knowing that every charity will have written down what to do in that deeply troubling scenario, thank heavens we can now all rush off and consult the guidance (that we previously spent two trustee meetings debating before the frazzled CEO wrote it all up in time they simply don't have). Charities should be trusted. And where they can't be trusted THAT is what the Charity Commission should be looking at. Board structures are problematic for so many charities. If they have to exist they need proper support, not more rules - sorry, guidance - in place of common sense. #SupportCharities #MoreSupportNeeded #Governance #Trust

It's time for a refresh of the Charity Governance Code, and we're asking you: 🚧 What are the barriers to using the Code? 🔄 Are there parts of the Code which need updating, to ensure its provisions stay relevant in the years to come? ✨ Does the Code do enough to support smaller charities? 👐 How can the Code be made more accessible? Make sure to have your say - whether or not you and your charity use the Code. Respond to our survey by the 11th August: https://lnkd.in/eBTSP-bu #CharityGovernanceCode #CharitySector #Governance #BoardofTrustees #CharityChairs

One of the best infrastructure tools freely available with a bundle of recommended practices for you to start implementing today #Charities #Governance
Our sincere thanks to the scores of charities, trustees, advisors, governance professionals and more, who have responded to our consultation on the future of the Charity Governance Code. We have been deeply encouraged by the level of engagement, and by the depth, breadth and thoughtfulness of the feedback which we have received. The consultation is now closed. We are carefully considering all of the comments received, which will ultimately shape any updates to the Code. Our goal is to make the Code as effective a tool as possible for supporting good governance, by removing barriers to its use and supporting charities in its implementation. We will be continuing to speak with, and seek feedback from, a variety of stakeholders throughout this important process of updating the Code. Thank you for your ongoing support. #Charity #CharityGovernance #Trustees #BoardofTrustees #CharityLaw #GoodGovernance #Governance #CharitySector

Good charity governance - it's more than just a tick box exercise. As a charity trustee or leader, when was the last time you really stepped back and looked at how good your charity governance structures actually are? I've just completed the Charity Governance Code Survey and it reminded me how often I see gaps in, or a lack of understanding of, good governance behaviours and practices at charities. This can lead to a lack of clarity about your purpose, a lack of focus on the right issues and poor decision making which, ultimately, has an impact on services and beneficiaries. I've run a number of sessions over the last year for both Governance Refresher Training and for facilitated reviews of the Charity Governance Code Diagnostic Tool (a really helpful tool with separate versions for small and large charities) and they've always prompted great discussions and reflections with the board and senior management. So, if you think it's time for you to review your governance practices, and you want some help, give me a shout. #CharityConsulting #GoodGovernance #ChangeForGood
