👇 Empowering Teachers in Africa through Digital Literacy and Community 🚀 In the journey to bridge the gap between access and quality education in Africa, digital literacy stands out as a fundamental skill for teachers. With technology, we can enhance learning experiences, access resources, and support each other to achieve meaningful outcomes for learners. Teachers have the power to transform classrooms into digital spaces of exploration and growth. However, they can't do it just as individual teachers — forming strong communities of teachers and support networks are essential. By sharing best practices, learning from one another, and nurturing a collaborative spirit, teachers create an environment where both them (teachers) and learners can thrive. Leading the drive to empower teachers in Africa through technology and community is Ubuntu Education. Ubuntu, as the name means in this context ‘I am because we are’, believes that it’s hard for a teacher to advance their careers on their own. It’s for this reason the organization has built UBUNTU HUB (https://lnkd.in/dQNSB9Dy) - the professional learning community for educators in Africa! Whether you’re looking to develop professionally, be inspired, share your expertise, find new job opportunities, mentorship, or simply seeking ideas and solutions from other likeminded teachers, the HUB is the place to be! What else does Ubuntu Education and the HUB do? Why should you join? Join me on 20/11/2024 – starting 8pm EAT, as I host Jess King, Co-founder & COO Ubuntu Education. Jess will be shedding more light, sharing insights and answering these and more questions. An educator with vast knowledge and experience, Jess stands out as a voice that seeks to amplify the role of teachers in building EdTech solutions that improve learning outcomes across Africa. Join this conversation HERE: https://lnkd.in/dfvasPDh Let's work together to unlock the potential of digital tools in education, make quality learning accessible, and inspire the next generation. What a Day 1! I’m absolutely buzzing after watching all the incredible conference sessions on the HUB! The conversations around incorporating indigenous knowledge and traditional games into Early Childhood Education, plus the deep dives into play-based learning and pedagogical best practices - it was everything I hoped for and more. I chose a career in education because I saw/experienced this gap: the need to contextualise learning and make it relevant and reflective of the children it serves. Seeing so many passionate educators/academics/innovators from across the continent sharing this same vision was truly inspiring. And having it all unfold on the Ubuntu HUB, a space we’ve spent the last year building for exactly these moments, was just incredible. Thank you to all the fantastic speakers for sharing your knowledge and passion. I learnt so much today. Now roll on Day 2! Here are some insights we received... ❓ What was the single most important takeaway for you from this session? 👉 We need a mindset change where we position ourselves as children to fully understand their learning. 👉 Traditional games have been a great way to engage learners for centuries and should be tapped into for the modern classroom. 👉 How to integrate indigenous knowledge when creating activities for the children. 👉 That contextualising play based learning is key and involvement of parents/caregivers through engaging programmes is a powerful tool to more effective learning.
Day One of the Play-Based Learning Conference was incredible! 4️⃣ 0️⃣ 0️⃣ ↗ We were thrilled to welcome over 400 attendees over 4 sessions on the Ubuntu Education Hub today. 🎤 The event was lit up by inspiring educators, researchers, and policy-makers who joined us to share their expertise around the theme of the continuum of play, and building cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge into hands-on, contextually relevant learning experiences for early childhood. 🗣 The sessions were packed with valuable insights and lively discussions, capped off perfectly by the summation from the Secretary of Education for Malawi 🇲🇼 (with sincere thanks to Mangani Katundu). 🙌 A huge thank you to all these amazing speakers for sharing their research, expertise, and innovation. hasina ebrahim Dr Fortunate Madondo FHEA Evan Hendon Tumelo Motaung 🇿🇦 Dr. Idaresit Inyang Futhi M. Small Steps, Big Impact: Supporting Education in the Philippines At iFIVE Global, we recognize that – as a corporation with operations throughout Metro Manila, Philippines – we have a responsibility to give back to the communities that are home to so many of our employees. The Philippines faces significant challenges in providing high-quality early education, particularly in access, funding, and learning outcomes. In global assessments like the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the country ranked near the bottom among 79 countries in reading, math, and science. These numbers highlight the need for stronger support, particularly in the early stages of education. Last month, our Business Transformation team launched an initiative to partner with an underprivileged public school near our delivery centers. After visiting over 20 local schools, we found one where we felt we could have the most meaningful impact — a school facing significant gaps in resources but blessed with dedicated staff and teachers. Our first step was small but significant: providing 300 backpacks filled with school supplies to incoming Kindergartners. We know that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and while this gesture was modest, we hope it helps these children start their educational journey on the right foot. This is just the beginning of our commitment. Throughout the months and years to come, iFive will continue to support this school with initiatives designed to “fill the gaps” in education, from providing tutors and supplies to addressing technology needs and even food security. Seeing the impact of even small contributions reinforces how important it is for us to be active members of the community. We’re grateful for the opportunity to help and for the hard work of the teachers and students who make these efforts worthwhile. I want to personally thank our Business Transformation team who managed this project on top of their already heavy workloads, and for our employee volunteers and customers who supported our efforts. You represent the best of us, and we’re excited to keep developing and growing our outreach programs. #iFiveCares #EducationMatters #Philippines #iFiveGlobal #GivingBack #Kindergarten #EarlyEducation #SupportEducation #CommunityImpact #FutureLeaders #BackToSchool #SchoolSuppliesDrive #TogetherWeThrive

We're excited to introduce you to our project, CoCreAid! As we all know, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are playing a bigger role than ever in society and regional development. Yet, there's a missing link when it comes to working efficiently with NGOs in the digital space. We've spoken to experts—45 from HEIs and 35 from NGOs—to understand the hurdles in digital co-creation. Turns out, there's no shortage of digital platforms, but there is a lack of know-how on using them effectively. Most people stick to what they know, which may not always be the best option. So, what's our solution? We're proud to introduce the CoCreAid Kit 4.0! This is an all-in-one platform designed to serve as a knowledge base on available digital platforms and methods for digital co-creation. Our graphical user interface (GUI) aims to make it easier for everyone to find the right platform, and successfully collaborate online. Stay tuned for updates and get ready to co-create in the digital world like never before! Find out more at https://cocreaid.eu/ #CoCreAid #HEI #NGO #Erasmusplus

Happy 10th World Youth Skills Day! We're thrilled to celebrate by highlighting the impact of our #FinancialLiteracy program in rural Laos. At the last National Children’s Forum in Laos, youth participants emphasised the need for these #Skills for younger children. So, we partnered with the Prudence Foundation to launch the Cha-Ching program – teaching children about earning, saving, spending, and giving back. Students like Phommalin (10) are already reaping the rewards. "I now know how to compare prices, distinguish between wants and needs, save money in piggy banks, save more, and spend less," she shares. These newfound skills are empowering young people to make informed choices and build brighter futures. https://bit.ly/3W5iAZv

A thoroughly enjoyable episode. Thank you Genevieve Simiyu, PMP of Chalkboard Education for a beautiful conversation. Listeners tune in and listen to our latest episode. #edtech #digitalliteracy #podcast
In this episode, Kwame speaks with Genevieve Simiyu, PMP, the Chief Operating Officer at Chalkboard Education, to discuss her inspiring journey. After taking a break from school and life, Genevieve moved to Ghana, where she worked on digital literacy projects. This experience opened her eyes to the gaps in Ghana’s education sector, particularly the lack of relevant online courses for African learners. She noticed that despite the youth’s thirst for knowledge, they faced barriers due to poor internet connectivity and non-localized content. This sparked Genevieve's quest for a more sustainable approach to education, leading to the creation of Chalkboard Education. Join us as Genevieve shares her assessments of the disruptions and innovations in the education sector post-COVID, and dives into Chalkboard Education’s mission, vision, challenges, and successes in making digital training accessible to all.
