Don't choose a career path because your friends, classmates, or mentor did! In 2021, I had the invaluable opportunity to intern with KPMG. Believe me, I was very excited and elated. For a passionate penultimate student, it felt like a dream come true. Who wouldn't want to intern with one of the big four? I interned with the audit division, but some weeks down the line, I began to question my interests. Yes, I could execute the assigned tasks, but it wasn't flowing. I couldn't feel myself. It seemed I was forcing myself to engage. At a point, I had to make inquiries with HR to decipher if I could change my division, but it was too late. One striking thing about my choice of "Audit" during my application was that I was inspired by a senior colleague. She didn't force or coerce me to choose her path, but I was so inspired by her strides that I really wanted to follow in her footsteps. For the record, she also interned with KPMG. lol. But, after that internship, I discovered that while we should always be inspired by the great strides and achievements of our mentors, leaders, colleagues, and friends, we must learn to tame our inspiration. Choosing a career path solely because it's popular among our friends, classmates, or mentors can lead to feelings of dissatisfaction and disengagement. It's been almost 3 years, and I am so glad I discovered that misalignment early. We must learn to continually "customize" our inspiration in such a way that it soothes and is tailored to our interests and passion.

I am excited to announce that I will be joining PwC this summer in the Houston office! As a Transfer Pricing Intern I am looking forward to begin applying the concepts and skills I've learning while pursuing my degree in Finance and Economics. Looking forward to doing whatever I can to provide value to my team! Recently I had the incredible opportunity to share my experiences and insights with the interns in KPMG Brazil. One intern asked, "Before starting at KPMG, did you envision your career the way it is now?" This question struck a chord with me, as it made me reflect on the unexpected twists and turns my own career has taken. From my beginnings as an auditor to my current role in supporting people-centric initiatives across Latin America, my career path has been anything but predictable. However, one piece of advice has remained a constant cornerstone throughout my journey: becoming a student of the firm. This advice applies to professionals in any industry. By immersing yourself in learning about your company, its services, and operations, you gain a deeper understanding and uncover new growth opportunities. Being a student of your company expands your knowledge and paves the way for advancement. Although I couldn't see the interns' faces during the presentation, their inspiring questions showcased their eagerness to advance their careers. It was an absolute pleasure to engage with such motivated individuals and witness their passion for professional growth. Failures don’t define you , Your comeback does.🙌 Turning down the highest package in my college was one of the toughest decisions I made. For months, I felt lost and questioned whether all my hard work my degree, internships, and projects had been in vain. But three months later, I landed a role at KPMG in Risk Advisory, the career path I had always aspired to. Looking back, here are the key lessons I learned:- ~> Rejection is redirection:- What feels like a failure is often a stepping stone to something better. ~> Effort compounds:- Every skill and experience you gain contributes to your success, even if it’s not immediately visible. ~> Resilience matters:- The way you bounce back defines your journey.
