We hear employers say that they’re not just looking for technical knowledge when they hire students and new grads. They’re also looking for experience, social-emotional skills, and the right attitude. Work-integrated learning (WIL) remains one of the best ways to gain all three. Students surveyed after participating in a BHER WIL program say that: ➡️ 90% feel optimistic about achieving success in the workforce. ➡️ 86% think their BHER WIL opportunity helped prepare them for the workforce. ➡️ 86% experienced improved problem solving skills; 85% improved communication skills; and 86% improved critical thinking skills.

Colleges Are Struggling to Provide Placement Opportunities for Students🚩 In today's competitive job market, many colleges find it increasingly difficult to secure quality placement opportunities for their students. Despite offering comprehensive academic programs, there is a gap between the skills students possess and what employers demand. This mismatch is resulting in lower placement rates and a growing frustration among students and parents alike. Here’s why colleges are struggling to provide the placement outcomes students deserve: 1. Lack of Industry-Driven Curriculum The rapid pace of technological advancements means many colleges are not able to update their curriculum in line with industry demands. Students are often taught outdated concepts that are no longer relevant to the job market. 2. Limited Industry Connections Without strong ties to industries and companies, colleges miss out on exclusive job opportunities, internships, and on-campus recruitment drives. Employers prefer to recruit from institutions where they have established relationships. 3. Inadequate Soft Skills Training While technical knowledge is important, employers today look for candidates who excel in communication, teamwork, and leadership. 4. Insufficient Internship and Real-World Exposure Students need hands-on experience to apply what they’ve learned. Colleges that don’t offer internships or live projects as part of their programs leave students underprepared for the practical challenges of the workplace. 5. Lack of Career Development Support A dedicated career development cell is crucial for preparing students for placements. Many colleges do not invest in this, leading to students being unprepared for resume building, interview techniques, and networking. 6. Outdated Placement Strategies Many colleges rely on traditional placement strategies that no longer work in a competitive market. Data-driven placement efforts and customized student training are necessary to align with modern hiring practices. --- 👉Partner with Us to Bridge the Gap: At MAD LEARNING, we specialize in providing placement training, industry connections, and real-world project experiences that help colleges boost their placement rates and better prepare their students for the workforce. Does College Really Matter in Placements? Here’s the Harsh Truth… We often hear that skills matter more than the name of your college when it comes to placements. While that’s true to an extent, the reality is that college does play a significant role in determining your placement opportunities—especially if you’re aiming for top-tier companies. Getting a good off-campus placement as a fresher can be one of the toughest challenges, though it’s not impossible. So, where does the real difference come in? 1. Opportunities Tier 1 colleges attract a wide range of companies, giving students more options to apply for. The sheer number of opportunities can significantly boost your chances of landing a great job. 2. Salary Packages It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but it’s true: the same company might offer a 24 LPA package at a Tier 1 college, while offering only 15 LPA for the same role at a Tier 2 or Tier 3 college. The difference in package can be significant, even if the job position remains identical. 3. Off-Campus Opportunities Tier 1 colleges typically have a strong alumni network. This network can make a huge difference when it comes to landing a referral or switching jobs. At BITS, for example, we have an active community where students and alumni help each other by sharing resumes and offering referrals. These differences create a noticeable gap in the mindset of students. For instance, a Tier 2 college student might be thrilled to get a 6 LPA offer, while a student at a Tier 1 college might see it as disappointing. The system, unfortunately, works this way. Even if two students have the same talent and drive, their placement outcomes can be vastly different due to a hierarchy established by their performance four years ago during exams like JEE or BITSAT. The consequences of those results can still be felt years later. However, there are exceptions. I have a friend from a Tier 3 college with an outstanding Codeforces profile who cracked GSoC and landed a fantastic job through pure skill and persistence. Stories like these prove that, while college can impact initial opportunities, determination and expertise can break through barriers. Conclusion: Your college may open doors, but your skills and determination decide how far you’ll go. Don’t let where you start limit where you can end up. #placements #collegeplacements

🌟 > 80% of B.Tech Students Seek Employment after completing their Graduation, currently the placement % is below 30% across Btech colleges in the country. Why Isn’t Placement a Core Parameter in NIRF? 🌟 With so many students investing in their degrees to secure good jobs, it’s surprising 🤔 that NIRF rankings lack a dedicated metric for placements. Shouldn’t the effectiveness of a university or college include how well it equips students for the job market? 💼 If placements matter to students, why aren’t they considered by NIRF? 🔑 Why Placement Metrics Are Essential: 1️⃣ Student-Centric Focus: For most students, employability is the primary goal. Placement rates, starting salaries, and career progression indicate how well an institution prepares students for real-world jobs. 🌐 2️⃣ Real-World Skills: Placements reflect how effectively an institution's curriculum and resources translate into practical skills. High grades alone don’t make a student job-ready! 📈 3️⃣ Institutional Accountability: Including placements would encourage institutions to align with industry needs and deliver accountable, job-focused education. 📘 📌 How Placement Metrics Could Be Integrated: 💥 Add a Weightage for Employability: A distinct weightage for the percentage of students placed, median salaries, and the quality of hiring companies would elevate employability as a priority. 🏆 💬 Include Employer Feedback: Employer ratings on graduates’ skills and job readiness could be a valuable addition, helping institutions understand industry expectations. 🤝 🚀 Incentivize Skill Development: A focus on placement outcomes would motivate institutions to enhance practical training, internships, and industry-aligned curricula. 🎓 Integrating placement as a core parameter would make NIRF more student-centered and aligned with real-world outcomes. 🏅 Let’s make NIRF rankings a better reflection of student goals, helping students, parents, and educators make informed choices for the future. 🌍📚 What are your thoughts? Should placements be a part of the NIRF framework? please comment with your views 💬

On the Futility of Placement Cells: A Need for Re-evaluation: When I finished my graduation in the year 2000, there was nothing much in this space. We had to fend ourselves. There was nothing like placement or an institutional mechanism in colleges to handhold students for the next steps in life. As someone who has observed and experienced the traditional placement process, it’s striking how often placement cells, despite their well-meaning intentions, fall short of their promise. Designed to be a bridge between students and the professional world, many placement cells end up limiting students to a handful of options that may not align with their skills, interests, or long-term goals. In today’s rapidly evolving job market, companies value adaptability, critical thinking, and problem-solving more than a standardized skillset. Yet placement cells often prioritize securing high-profile companies over ensuring the right fit for students. As a result, students sometimes feel compelled to settle for roles that neither challenge them nor leverage their true potential, and companies, in turn, receive hires who may lack genuine interest in the position. With the kind of job hopping and " package frenzy" amongst youth and colleges and the lack of skill depth in the students. Are our colleges infusing the right skill sets which are professionally relevant? Is it time to rethink the placement process? Perhaps a system that empowers students to explore diverse industries, encourages internships and practical learning, and values career guidance over job listings could serve them better. Let’s aim for a future where “getting placed” is less about checking a box and more about finding a meaningful career path.
