Oh, so I just got my US visa approved! Well, this isn’t a post where we're going to talk about the US visa itself, but rather about what life looks like for an F1 visa candidate and the journey to get there. I started my journey about a year ago, in September, applying to a multitude of universities and carefully deciding between programs for my master's or an MBA. As an early to mid-career professional, I had countless questions: Should I pursue a master’s now? Is it worth leaving my well-paying job and starting anew in the States? Do I really want to take that risk? Will the job market provide opportunities when I graduate? Will I achieve the desired return on investment after graduating from an Ivy League university? The process was grueling and filled with uncertainties. Over 10 months, I dedicated myself to researching and applying to various universities, both Ivy League and top-tier public and private institutions in the US. Balancing a full-time job while managing the application process was no easy feat. I spent countless hours refining my applications, writing essays, and preparing for interviews. The uncertainty was overwhelming, and I constantly questioned whether I was making the right choice. What if I couldn't adjust to life in India anymore? And more dauntingly, could I survive and thrive in an entirely different country? Despite these fears, I persevered. I received multiple admission offers, and each one felt like a small victory. The hardest part was yet to come—deciding which program to choose and preparing for the significant life changes ahead. Now, after securing my visa, I can reflect on the journey. Was it worth the stress, the sleepless nights, and the endless doubts? Oh boy, absolutely! The sense of accomplishment and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead make every challenge along the way worth it. This journey has not only prepared me for academic and professional growth but has also taught me resilience and determination. To all the candidates preparing for their F1 visa and upcoming master’s programs: the journey is going to be overwhelming. You’ll experience imposter syndrome, but remain steady—the best is yet to come! #usvisa #f1visa
