Watch Jared Isaacman's Fireside Chat with BE President Steve Wolfe today! Sharing at the recent Beyond Earth Symposium, Jared shares his experiences during the historic Polaris Dawn Mission as the first non-government spacewalker in a commercially-built EVA suit and discusses what he envisions for the future of human spaceflight. As the recent pick for NASA Administrator, Beyond Earth looks forward to seeing the profound impact Jared is sure to have on the future of human capabilities in space. We congratulate Jared again on this momentous achievement! Watch the Fireside Chat here: https://lnkd.in/eSwN3kNv

Celebrating World Space Week: A Look Back at October 8th in Space History As we celebrate World Space Week and this year’s theme, "Space and Sustainability," it’s important to reflect on the milestones that have shaped our journey into the cosmos. On October 8, 1958, NASA made a crucial move that changed the landscape of space exploration—it formally established Project Mercury, the United States' first human spaceflight program. Project Mercury aimed to send a human into orbit and bring them safely back to Earth, laying the groundwork for future missions that would eventually lead to the Apollo moon landings. This historic step wasn’t just about sending humans into space; it marked the beginning of humanity’s deeper relationship with the universe. It was a testament to the power of perseverance, collaboration, and innovation in science and technology.

As we approach 2025, we’re counting down the 3 most high-profile audits that sparked interest and ignited curiosity in 2024. Coming in at #3 is our assessment of the Mars Sample Return Program. We recommended that, before advancing this project, NASA stabilize key elements involved in collecting samples from the Red Planet: https://lnkd.in/ePcfk24d

Interesting how the space race is continuing to develop and advancing towards next stop Mars! China's space agency could be the first to bring samples from Mars to Earth, in a plan that would return Martian rocks and sediment in 2031. If China’s Tianwen-3 mission remains on track, it will beat NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) in bringing Mars rocks back to Earth by nearly a decade. NASA announced in April that the planned Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission, a joint effort between NASA and ESA, would be delayed until the 2030s. Under the current plan, the MSR lander would launch in 2035, and the sample-return mission wouldn't occur until 2040.

LEO commercialization of space is making progress.
On Sept. 11, we hosted NASA at our Eldorado campus and conducted Milestone 5 of our Interim Design Review, under CCSC-2 - part of our NASA Space Act Agreement (S.A.A.). During the review, we summarized the architecture of our Pathfinder mission and introduced our detailed analysis of the route to launch. CCSC-2 aims to foster the commercialization of the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) economy through a "pathfinder" space station on-orbit that demonstrates key elements of future commercial space stations.

Check out the cool feature "Ready for the runway: Dream Chaser spaceplane prepares for first trip to ISS". We excitedly look forward to your continued progress and trip to Florida for the next steps before launch. Tenacity, along with an attached 16-foot cargo module, Shooting Star, is capable of delivering up to 12,000 pounds to the International Space Station (ISS). Upon Tenacity's departure from ISS and deorbit burn, Shooting Star will detach from Tenacity and burn up on reentry, along with its contents, hence its given name. While Tenacity can reach up to 3,000 degrees on reentry within 30 minutes, the spaceplane will cool enough for retrieval of all cargo and hardware. With no need to accommodate a crew, most of the available space in Tenacity is freed up for the "professional tetris" stacked cargo. Very cool! #SpaceNews #AerospaceEngineering #InternationalSpaceStation #ISS #Cargo #Spacecraft
After Tenacity and Shooting Star complete their final environmental testing at NASA Armstrong Test Facility in Ohio, Sierra Space will ship the spacecraft to Kennedy Space Center to begin loading and prepping them for launch, where Tenacity will hitch a ride to low-earth orbit on United Launch Alliance (ULA)'s Vulcan rocket.
