The Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP), the Malaysian-founded organisation responsible for the promotion of industry best practices and sustainability initiatives within the plantation sector, will be launching its regional chapter for Africa on the 24th of May this year. A milestone event that will be taking place at the Abuja Continental Hotel in Nigeria, the launch aligns with the ISPs active initiatives to bring revolutionary changes to the African agricultural sector. Aiming to replicate some of the success that has been experienced by nations such as Malaysia and Indonesia over the past few decades, the ISP and its representatives strongly believe that Africa is due to revisit its agro-industry practices and focus on improving key areas such as technology adoption and capacity building. The purpose of the launch is to introduce ISP's vision, mission and goals to the plantation industry at large, as well as to foster networking opportunities among agricultural experts, industry stakeholders, policy makers and researchers, in order to support efforts at improving the conditions within the plantation sector. The ISP hopes to use the occasion to discuss key challenges and opportunities within the African Agricultural Sector as well as well as to emphasize the importance of sustainable and innovative agricultural practices. The launch will also allow the ISP to more clearly highlight its role in promoting knowledge exchange and capacity building among planters across Africa As participants of the event, key leadership from the IRGA and KINGOYA teams will be attending the launch, joined by a sizable delegation from Malaysia. During the Brazil Trade Mission to East Africa in February 2024, as part of the delegation, a visit was organized to the Agriculture and Food Authority in Kenya. This visit aimed to foster collaboration and exchange between #Brazil and #Kenya in the agricultural sector. The discussions held during the visit proved to be highly productive, as representatives from both countries engaged in dialogue concerning various aspects of agriculture and food production. The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for members of the Brazilian delegation to gain firsthand knowledge of Kenya's agricultural landscape and initiatives undertaken by the Agriculture and Food Authority. Likewise, it allowed Kenyan officials to learn about Brazil's expertise in agriculture and explore potential areas of mutual benefit. Recognizing the global demand for fresh mangoes, especially when supply is traditionally low from October to March in India, we aim to fill this gap and become a leading supplier of these coveted fruits year-round. Our venture spans 100 hectares with a target to produce 95 million mangoes by leveraging advanced agricultural technologies and sustainable practices. The core of our strategy involves the cultivation of Alphonso mangoes, renowned for their superior taste and quality, during times when they are not available from traditional sources. We're not just focusing on the Indian market but also targeting international markets in the UAE and USA, where there's a significant demand for premium, organic mangoes. Financially, we anticipate a robust return with projections of $6 million in net revenue from the fifth year onwards, based on an exportable yield of 402,000 boxes of Grade A and B mangoes. Our business plan includes meticulous land scouting and preparation in Africa, plantation of locally grafted Ratnagiri Alphonso mangoes, a strategic harvest phase beginning in years 3 to 4, and the establishment of a processing plant for value-added products from lower-grade mangoes.
