🚀 Innovation on the Rise: The Shift in German Industry 🇩🇪 Traditional German industries are grappling with rapid change, while new ideas and technologies are not only surviving but thriving. This shift has never been more evident than here in Munich, where initiatives like the SuperLink project are making waves in the press and capturing the attention of the nation. Some events resonate for longer – and the ISIRC hosted by the Berner Fachhochschule BFH Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen BFH was certainly one of those! Besides the opportunity to present our project in social innovation challenges, there was plenty of food for thought to take home. One theme that I noticed coming up in several presentations was: test your assumptions.  Sophie Bacq spoke about the fact that not all businesses strive for their success to be visible – in some circumstances this might be a disadvantage, e.g. if it makes then a target for criminals.   Luciana Marques Vieira Explained that food baskets for those in need are a good thing, but only if people have a home and the money for gas or electricity to cook that food – instead, solidarity kitchens in Brazil decided to give out already cooked food.  And Nadja Koller laid out that testing your assumption is vital if you want to ensure co-creation and co-design aren't tokenistic. Very intersting were als the future challenges for the field of social innovation which Jürgen Howaldt pointed out: social innovation and social transformation, SI and technological innovation and the role of policy for SI And as I co-authored our study on new technologies and social innovations (https://lnkd.in/e7RxYD9p) the second points was of special interest for me. 

BRIDGE Discovery supports 17 innovative and sustainable projects with 21.6 million francs. 📣   The projects cover a wide range of disciplines. Here are a few examples:   𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: Martin Müller (University of Lausanne) and Leticia Labaronne (ZHAW Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften) are developing a management system for sustainability that can be used to measure, monitor and manage progress in a cultural institution. 🌿   𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞: Philip Brunner (Université de Neuchâtel), Oliver Schilling (University of Basel) and Rolf Kipfer (Eawag) want to model and predict water consumption in Switzerland more precisely. 🌊   𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐄. 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐢 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚: The chemical industry is largely dependent on fossil fuels as raw materials for the production of chemicals.
