Faulty Sr. Manager experience expectations? I see a lot of postings for Sr. Manager and even Director roles in software engineering, which have requirements/responsibilities like: - 5+ years software engineering experience - 3+ years leadership experience in software engineering - expert knowledge of javascript and React development (or AWS cloud-native microservices development, or whatever). It seems that one can only qualify to be a Sr. Manager (maybe a Director??) over the exact technology worked on as a single-contributor. Is that right? Unless it is a very small company (or startup), a Sr. Manager of software engineering should be spending their time on leadership stuff like: collaboration/strategy alignment/people & career management/team building/tech modernization and innovation/identifying and removing barriers/improving process & productivity & costs/etc ... These things do not involve looking at code or even technical designs. They DO require familiarity and experience with software engineering and technology for sure. But not a "deep knowledge" of a particular tech stack. Thoughts? #hiring #recruiting #softwareEngineering #leadership

For all the budding engineers: • Remove the 1 Lakh/pm bracket from your dream salary. Target for 2 Lakhs. • Pay more attention to system design, it is more than just an interview round. • Remote jobs are 10x difficult to crack. • Cloud will be an integral part of the future hiring rounds for SDE/SDET/QA, so spend some weekends learning it. • Do freelancing, do contract work, do everything that will give you better exposure(but don’t work for free). • No YT video or blog can help you unless you write a ton of code yourself.
