We made a video game!
(Now let’s get some classic LinkedIn ellipses in here…)
The Glitch launches in Fortnite tomorrow morning at 10am PST and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built. For me, making a video game had long been one of those never-gonna-happen-but-wow-wouldnt-it-be-cool-if-it-did kind of career goals. This glow is gonna stick around, I think.
So grateful to Bill Young for letting me ride shotgun over the past year and help navigate where this 18-wheeler of a project was headed; to Bettina Avila for bringing so much order to the chaos; to Patrick Moran and the team at Look North World for being unbelievable creative partners; to Brett Bates for giving me the ability to (quite often) set down my day job and dedicate time to this endeavor; and countless Twitch/Amazon folks, in no particular order: Andrea GarabedianVictor LuSonya TsuiKasie AntichArdian PerkolajNick HeitzKatherine Bowe FumiaJames KooJesse ShawAdam MellerJosh BatesKellye ChambersMackenzie Portfolio at TwitchCon.
I’m in love with the philosophy that brought this game to life. We believed we could build a game that brought value to both players AND advertisers – provided that we were intentional about the process and, frankly, unflinching in our approach.
1️⃣ We studied, like… so much. In order to bring a superior product to market, we had to know what a superior product looked like. We talked to experts, we played a ton of games 😏 , I even (sort of) learned to code so I could better understand the potential and the limits of the platform.
2️⃣ We had a concise, killer story. Most branded games are terrible – sorry not sorry – because they are just that, branded games. As AdAge put it this morning, we were out to build a proper game FIRST, and use it for advertising SECOND. Preach.
3️⃣ We set clear, uncrossable boundaries (I’m most proud of this part). Our figurative kitchen started with the perfect amount of cooks, and even if it ruffled some feathers, we kept it that way. What’s the point of being an expert if you aren’t willing to stand up for what you know, you know?
We’re launching tomorrow with the support of Domino’s Pizza and Peloton (and have more partners in the hopper!) and I’m constantly floored by their willingness to buy in, and let us do our thing. The game is better for it, and I think players will agree.
See you in there tomorrow! I’ll be the guy with the Appa glider.
Today we would like to share an ad we created for the "Blade & Soul Revolution" game featuring the duo “Barry and Garry”, two characters we created that have been in dozens of top performing ads for a LOT of games!🎬🎥
The idea was to create an iconic duo that act like silly slackers who love to review games. They make fun of each other, but they’re also inseparable and defensive of each other. Garry is better at video games, but Barry has more “street smarts”.
All of the ads we make with Barry and Garry are unscripted. Whenever we slap on our mullet wigs, cutoff jean jacket vests, and belly shirts, everything that follows is comedy gold🏆💪 The more ridiculous we acted the better the ad performed. 😉

If you've ever wanted to live out your very own Hollywood dream, I don't think this is the game for you.
But if you've ever imagined being the no-good studio exec in a movie about Hollywood, watch this trailer because I think you've found the game of your dreams.
This trailer makes me believe this game will give me the following:
🤣 Dark humor in these wild times (rather laugh than cry).
🌟 Take my shot at making it in Hollywood (without leaving my desk).
😈 Being bad as a player fantasy (so I can stay good IRL).
I don't know if this game will deliver on what this trailer has to offer, but the sheer fact weappy is opting for longer trailers - 4 minutes here and a gameplay trailer from earlier this summer was 7 minutes long - means they know they've got something that will attract players who give it a chance.
Might want to keep a can of Raid nearby though. That box of spiders could be dangerous for your health.

Today we celebrate an icon. On this day in 1980, Pac-Man was launched in the US. It changed the world of video games forever – and gave us all a serious case of “Pac-Man Fever”.
Pac-Man’s journey is a great reminder of the power of timing and innovation.
The game was originally released as “Puck-Man” in Japan, but it was the US launch that turned Pac-Man into a cultural phenomenon. It shows us that even the most brilliant ideas sometimes need the right market and moment to truly shine.
So, what can we learn from Pac-Man? Sadly, nothing about ghosts.
But if you’re looking to expand your business, or launch a new product, Pac-Man shows that you should always know your audience and adapt to their needs. A little rebranding and the right distribution strategy can take something good and turn it into something legendary.
Let’s channel some of that Pac-Man energy into our own business goals.
