American Fund Will Invest $20 Million in Israeli Startups 97212 Ventures, a New York-based VC, established a $20 million fund that aims to invest in new Israeli pre-seed and Seed startups. The fund will provide access to Israeli startups to a network of New York-based resources to grow businesses and pave the way to the US market (senior advisors, early customers, and channel partners). 97212 Ventures provides capital for Israeli startups to establish a presence in New York City, providing founders would stay here within 18 months. It invests in B2B enterprise technologies, digital health, wellness, fintech, prop-tech, and logistics. 97212 Ventures has already invested in 14 startups including Remepy, Beti, and Ritual, among others. “Israel has unique tech talent,” said Eyal Bino, Founding Partner. “This new fund serves as a complete plug-in for Israeli entrepreneurs looking to build global startups by giving them capital, guidance, and instant access to the entire NYC tech ecosystem including senior advisors, design partners, potential partners, and customer introductions”. Niv Calderon is helping Israeli startups succeed in the United States I met Niv during the summer of 2016 at a party around the DLD Conference in Tel Aviv, (back then he was focused on IoT), in a random serendipitous way We got started chatting, and have been in touch ever since I’ve been thinking a lot about the future of Israeli tech, and as we’ve seen with these tech solutions defending Israel, the Startup Nation brand is still going strong We’ve been in touch over the years, and reconnected over the past year as he’s been in New York, and is someone I really don’t see enough Aside from being a writer and speaker, he is the founder of Periodic Ventures, a hands-on business accelerator which equips their clients with the necessary resources and support for expanding startups and establishes connections with a network of investors and partners in the US It’s a cliché at this point but many Israeli founders (and founders in general), need help with raising money, and it’s not just about what they say to potential investors, but HOW they say It This is no small feat, as when I chatted with Niv, he mentioned that unless a founder has raised money before, they’re really going to struggle as a startup the first time they do it What I believe separates Niv from others who work with founders, (and it’s clear when you speak with him), is that he really cares about the startups he works with succeeding There are some people, whether they are compensated or not, who will give it 100% What I do like about Niv is how he has evolved with different industries, and reinvented himself, but still keeps refining his core skills (such as business development) I know I paint Israel, and Israelis in general often in a positive light, but like anything, there is the good and the bad… but with everything going on in the region I am just reminded of that unbreakable Israeli spirit It’s so important today, being open and transparent with people, and also supporting them… and giving them the gift of the truth, especially in a brutally difficult space like early-stage startups As Niv stated regarding the impact of their work at Periodic Ventures: “We provide valuable access to both sides of the US market (with my partner, Guy, on the West Coast) and real access and insights into how Americans conduct business. This access is crucial for companies looking to successfully transition into the US market. Our role as a business accelerator is to bridge the gap, offering the necessary guidance and resources to help these companies ‘Americanize’ and thrive in this competitive environment. Additionally, we often work with lone CEOs who lack other business minds in their executive teams. By serving as a business-oriented sounding board, we bring a unique perspective that is often missing, helping these leaders make more informed decisions and drive their companies forward."
