Well there it is, #GeneralElection announced for 4th July. The main thing the next Government need to do - no matter who it is - is put public services back at the forefront of policy making and see them for what they truly are - a key delivery partner to national government who save lives, boost the quality of life of residents, reduce inequalities in society, and support those most in need. By prioritising public services an incoming government will be prioritising the quality of life for residents in Britain and will be investing in all our futures, helping us to be prepared for crises and avoid collapses in the system. It's the one thing the next Government has to get right.

🗳️ Impact of the General Election on the UK Property Market Now we know Labour will be taking the reins of government and ushering in a new era of policies and promises, particularly in housing and property markets. Their manifesto outlines ambitious plans to address the chronic issues of housing affordability, renters’ rights, and homelessness. However, the practical implementation of these initiatives, especially in a local context like Hounslow, raises significant questions. Yet before we look at those, it is essential to see what has happened up to this election. Click Learn more to read full article 👇 https://lnkd.in/dwa-f8xw

The not-so-strange death of two-tier England? Labour’s new white paper on local government reform could bring the biggest shake-up since the 1970s. By creating unitary councils of around 500,000 residents, the aim is to: 🔹 Ease financial pressures, especially in social care 🔹 Deliver more streamlined, joined-up services 🔹 Lay the groundwork for further devolution But, challenges remain: boundary disputes, local flexibility, and representation in rural areas. 👉 Read our latest insight from Jason Brock: https://lnkd.in/eWPhhfMe Is this the reform local government needs? ““Faster economic growth is thus essential to regaining the path back to fiscal health. To restore the nation’s demographic vitality, a growth agenda should prioritize making it easier to start and sustain families,” said EIG. “Other ideas include investments in research and innovation, an expansive and better designed immigration policy, and tax and regulatory policies that foster economic dynamism and participation in the workforce.” In another part of the study it shows that most of the support goes to GOP controlled rural areas. And it is the GOP standing in the way of $100’s and $ 100’s of billions needed for this.

🔔 Important Announcement for Survivors of Domestic Abuse🔔 Today marks a crucial step forward in supporting survivors of domestic abuse. The removal of the local connection test means that survivors will no longer need to prove a connection to the area where they apply for social housing. We welcome this early recognition from the new Government, acknowledging that domestic abuse and housing are deeply intertwined. Every day, we witness the devastating impact of the housing crisis on survivors, many of whom are forced to 'choose' between homelessness, housing insecurity, or staying with a perpetrator, risking their safety. However, while this is a significant step, the true success of this measure will depend on careful implementation, ongoing scrutiny, and robust oversight to ensure it truly benefits those in need. #DomesticAbuse #HousingCrisis #SocialHousing #SupportSurvivors #NewMeasures
Women’s Aid and the survivors we support had been waiting for the previous government to respond to their consultation on local connection for a number of years. Finally, this decisive action from our new government will make a real difference to them. Here is how I see reform within the UK Parliamentary structure... 1 - MPs are elected by their constituents and must actually live in their constancy. 2 - They form the executive of County Councils - all levels of government below will be dissolved. 3 - They form the Members of the Home Nations parliaments. There will be no 'additional' elections. 4 - They represent the UK in the National Parliament Why do this? 1 - Reduction in cost and resources: removing the multiple layers of representation, parish, district, county, mayors, police and fire commissioners and various 'assemblies' we can reduce the resource consumption in terms of people and money. 2 - Each new layer of government reflects the current cabinets e.g. Health, Education, Defence etc. and is responsible for defining needs and implementing policy. With few exemptions, UK wide plans, for example health, are equally resourced and available to all UK citizens. 3 - Accountability: One call, email or online chat connects the citizen to the department responsible to resolve their issue. For example, a call to Dept of Transport in Hertfordshire to report a pothole on any road, will record the hole and arrange for its fixing. I think many MPs have forgotten, "The UK public elects Members of Parliament (MPs) to represent their interests and concerns in the House of Commons." How would you reform Parliament and Government? #GE2024 #VoteLabour #VoteConservative #ElectionDebate #yourvotyourvoice

Today’s UK general election is a pivotal moment for our country. With the economy struggling, the NHS in crisis, and immigration issues at the forefront, our votes are more important than ever. Both major parties, the Conservatives and Labour, offer different solutions, and the outcome will shape the nation’s future. This election also highlights the importance of recognising and addressing the needs of UK’s multicultural society. Communities, especially those feeling overlooked could send their vote in a direction least expected. Plus the current humanitarian issues have impacted people's perception of our current leaders. We are a rich pot of diversity. It’s crucial for MPs to reflect the diversity of our nation and ensure all voices contribute to the political process. Additionally, parties like the Green's and Independent may attract votes from those dissatisfied with the major parties stance on issues close to their heart and issues that make us proud to be British and part of a society that should be empathic, equitable and just. Our vote is our voice. By participating, we help ensure we elect a competent government that listens to its people and addresses their needs. Let’s make sure to use our votes today and be part of building a better future for everyone. Clearly the current status quo cannot continue. Please use your Vote today, it's your voice so amplify it loud and clear. #voteforchange2024 #ReducePoverty #investintheNHS #equitable #FinancialFreedom #diversityequityinclusion #HumanityFirst #CostOfLivingSupport #YourVoteMatters
