Understand that your job search will come with many uncertainties and rejections. Here’s how you can stay motivated through your job search: 1. Define achievable goals Instead of chasing a lofty ideal of what you should be doing on your job search, set clear and achievable goals for yourself. Breaking down your bigger goals into smaller tasks will also help you. 2. Establish a schedule Setting up a schedule for your daily and weekly job searching activities can help you stay focused and be on track. Identify which tasks you must complete every day to achieve your job search goals. 3. Organization is key Keeping your information organized is important. Be sure to maintain a clear record of your job applications, job descriptions, contacts, and follow-up schedules. 4. Engage in regular networking activities Get in touch with your professional network to discuss available opportunities on a regular basis. Use LinkedIn as a networking tool to assist in your job search. 5. Take care of yourself Self-care plays a huge role in any career activity that you do. If you’ve been at it for a while, you may find yourself getting discouraged, and wondering how you’ll persevere until you land a good-fit job. Here are 3 ways to stay motivated in your job search: 1. Co-mentor with another job seeker. Find someone you can connect with frequently to share successes and strategies. Support each other through failures. 2. Join a job search support group. In a job search club, you’ll be among people going through the same ups and downs, who will share techniques that work and those that don’t. They understand what you’re feeling in a way that your family and friends may not be able to. Libraries often host these groups. 3. Avoid negative people.
