I have some interesting info for aspiring Yellowknife entrepreneurs or real estate investors looking to either lease space to or operate a liquor store (or beer & wine store) in Yellowknife. The Department of Finance issued a Request for Expressions of Interest last week, which you can find on the GNWT contracts page under Event ID 0000007913. The current contracts expire in August of 2025, and instead of going straight out to RFP (Request Proposals) for combined owner/operators, like the current model, the department is splitting the contracts up. They will be issuing four separate RFPs - two to find landlords who are willing to lease space (or build and lease space), and two to store operators. I don't really know what inspired the new approach, but it makes sense that it would be harder to find someone who both owns a building and is willing to operate a liquor store, than to find someone who is in a position to do one but not the other. If you're interested in finding out more, be sure to let them know. I think you have to express interest in order to be involved in the RFP, but I could be wrong about that. The deadline for expressions of interest is Nov 29. And then the RFP will be issued in early December.
