What's the ROI in website accessibility? 💷 Although investing in web accessibility should be motivated by improving the user experience for all, for most businesses that isn’t enough of an incentive. The return on investment for web accessibility can be substantial though, impacting both your bottom line and your ability to serve a broader audience. Improving web accessibility (#a11y) isn't just good ethics—it's good business. Here are three simple ways to make your site more inclusive: 1. Use clear, descriptive alt text for images Help screen readers convey your visuals to those who can't see them. 2. Ensure good colour contrast Make text easy to read for everyone, including those with visual impairments. 3. Make your site keyboard-friendly Not everyone uses a mouse. Ensure all functions work with keyboard navigation. 💡Remember: An accessible website reaches a wider audience and improves SEO. Want to dive deeper? Skip links are an important accessibility feature for websites. They allow users to quickly navigate to a webpage's main content, bypassing repetitive content. This feature is especially helpful for people who rely on screen readers or keyboard-only navigation. Usually located at the top of a webpage, skip links remain hidden until they receive focus. They are particularly useful for websites with complex navigation structures or long headers. Here's a simple guide on how to implement skip links (see the image below for a step-by-step example): 1️⃣ Identify the main content area: Determine where users should land when they skip past repetitive content. 2️⃣ Create the skip link anchor: Add an anchor tag with a unique ID attribute to designate the main content area. 3️⃣ Make the skip link: Place a discreet link at the top of your page, allowing users to jump straight to the main content. 4️⃣ Style it (optional): Enhance the skip link's appearance while ensuring it remains accessible. 5️⃣ Test, test, test: Ensure your skip link works smoothly for all users, regardless of their navigation method. By including skip links on your website, you're not only improving accessibility but also making it more user-friendly for everyone. Are you ready to boost web accessibility? Share your tips or experiences in the comments below, and let's work together to create a more inclusive web! #WebAccessibilityTips #WebDevelopment #ScreenReaders #KeyboardNavigation
