At Ancestral Organics, we had the privilege of attending #COP16 on biodiversity in Cali, where global leaders unite to discuss essential actions for conserving our planet. With over 70% of Quindío’s soils facing degradation, our commitment to regenerative agriculture not only restores soil health and captures carbon but actively supports biodiversity. We participated in Roots & Resilience, created by GoodSAM, PBC, JellyShot and Be.blum. This event highlighted the intersection of culture and sustainability in food, with Domingo Restaurant crafting a menu sourced from local ingredients, fostering a deep connection between food and the land. We had the privilege of hearing from Heather K. Terry, the CEO of GoodSAM, PBC, whose incredible work with communities they engage with inspires us. GoodSAM is a company we greatly admire at Ancestral Organics; their impact and what they have built as a brand serve as a testament that this path is indeed possible. We were also fortunate to hear from Mauricio Diazgranados, PhD, Chief Science Officer at the New York Botanical Garden, who shared insights from his latest research on Colombia’s vast array of underutilized plant species. Highlighting the potential of over 3,500 plants with unique food and medicinal uses, his work serves as a powerful reminder of the need to protect and harness Colombia’s rich biodiversity. This insightful space was organized by Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU), and we thank Claudia Martinez for her efforts in creating these knowledge-sharing opportunities, especially through Folu Quindío, where we are proud members of the regenerative network. It was inspiring to connect with visionaries like Pablo Restrepo of JellyShot , whose expertise in brand strategy and purpose-driven design offers a powerful approach to sustainable branding; Pedro Castro from The Nature Conservancy, an expert in regenerative livestock practices that align with biodiversity conservation; and Margarita Cabal and Andres Reyes of Paramo Snacks—a company we greatly admire for their dedication to protecting Colombia’s páramos through their innovative chip products. At Ancestral Organics, we’re now embarking on a new journey with a study in Quindío in collaboration with key partners, monitoring the impact of regenerative agriculture on biodiversity, soil health, and water conservation. This initiative is made possible thanks to Manuela Jaramillo Gómez, our COO—a powerhouse who makes everything we do possible. A balanced ecosystem not only sustains our crops but is essential for agriculture that respects and enriches our planet. Through science, strong partnerships, and quality products, we aim to scale regenerative agriculture at the pace our planet needs.
