In 2008 Californians voted for about $10 billion in bonds for high-speed rail connecting San Francisco and Los Angeles—the first payment of a then-estimated $33 billion budget for the 800-mile stretch. So far, only a 1,600-foot Fresno River Viaduct has been built, along with a hodgepodge of guideways and structures. At this pace, the project will be completed in about 40,000 years. The current estimated cost has risen to around $130 billion, but that does factor in inflation and the extra waste over the next 20, 30, 40, years.

The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) has awarded more than $189 million to enhance the Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) rail corridor, supporting both passenger and freight transit along this vital coastal route. Key projects supported by this funding from the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) include: - OCTA’s Coastal Rail Infrastructure Resiliency Project: $125M to protect the San Clemente coastline. - Eastbrook to Shell Double-Tracking Project: $26.8M to improve reliability in Oceanside by converting a 0.6-mile track to a double-track system. - Ortega Siding Project: $22M to facilitate more Pacific Surfliner trips, improving connectivity. - Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Phase 5: $11.6M to secure the bluffs and mitigate erosion risks. - Orcutt Road Left-Hand Crossover: $4.1M to boost flexibility along the Central Coast. These enhancements will help ensure operational continuity, safety, and capacity expansion for the second busiest intercity passenger rail corridor in the United States. The 351-mile LOSSAN corridor is a lifeline for 41 stations and hosts over 150 daily passenger trains.

Great op-ed from California Alliance For Jobs Executive Director Michael Quigley. Funding for projects to improve critical goods movement infrastructure are under attack. As a reminder: - 80% of all goods move exclusively by truck - Congestion increases the cost of goods and leads to greater carbon emissions - California is home to 8 of the nation's top 100 worst freight bottlenecks according to research from the American Transportation Research Institute Maintaining an all of the above approach to transportation funding is vital for our State. https://lnkd.in/gef4vUg2

🛣️💸 $15M AZ INTERSTATE PROJECT 💸🛣️ A recent $15 million federal grant, awarded to Bernalillo County, which encompasses Albuquerque, along with other partners to complete infrastructure improvements along I-40, could drive more private, transportation-related investment throughout New Mexico and Arizona. The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the county a $15 million grant through its Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity, or RAISE, program in early July. Funding for the federal program comes through the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Those grant dollars will support the I-40 Tradeport Corridor, or I40TPC, a public-private development project to build out more sustainable transportation infrastructure along an 805-mile stretch of Interstate 40 from the Port of Los Angeles to Albuquerque. Partners in I40TPC include Bernalillo County, the project's public sector coordinator and fiscal agent, Sandoval County and the Village of Los Lunas in New Mexico, the cities of Winslow and Kingman in Arizona, the states of New Mexico and Arizona and several education institutions in the two states including the University of New Mexico and Mohave Community College. This new $15 million federal grant will help advance those infrastructure planning efforts, including at specific "hub" locations and across the broader interstate network, said Carolyn Tobias, economic development manager for Bernalillo County. #federalgrant #infrastructure #arizona #newmexico #dot #ericcook

Can one infrastructure decision influence California’s economic future? I had the opportunity to sit down with Kevin Kiley, United States Representative, to discuss the exciting developments in our region and how they are transforming the future of economic growth. Infrastructure investments have a ripple effect: improved transportation networks can attract businesses, reduce congestion, and enhance the quality of life. In turn, this makes the region more competitive economically, and the potential magnitude of these infrastructure decisions cannot be overstated. Imagine riding your bike along a scenic class one bike trail to work – that's just one part of the modernization efforts taking place. As Kevin mentions, enhancing access to housing and improving traffic are crucial to making this region even more attractive to businesses and residents alike. #dot #departmentoftransportation #infrastructureplanning
