Much like having a minimalist birthday last week, microblogging is all about keeping it simple. Unless you’re a content creator who makes a decent living off social media and (micro)blogs, they usually don’t take a huge amount of time and investment. Honestly, even my now-dormant Substack newsletter doesn’t take much time to write either. However, I get so tired and there’s always something left to be done even after I’m done with my post-dinner chores. That’s when I sometimes consider deleting all my other digital platforms and solely focusing on a microblog. On the other form, I enjoy writing long-form content and don’t want to give up on that. It’s such a confusing situation at times! If you’re someone like me with a short attention span, you’d like this low-investment digital platform that doesn’t take up much of your resources. You can post almost anything that resonates with your audience, and voila, you have so much content for the next few weeks! Once again, if you’re someone like me who enjoys the high value that long-form content brings with the convenience of short-form content, you can keep a traditional blog and a microblog with completely different niches, writing styles and target audiences. I believe that keeps things interesting your writing life, and your mind active. . . . #microblogging #microblogs #blogs #blogger #mediumpost

So proud to be featured in Vuelio's Top 20 UK Parent Bloggers for the 8th year in a row. Blogging has changed so much since I started writing online and I have seen so many blogs come and go. Looking through the chart, I see so many familiar names who have weathered the same storms as I have. From when we just wrote and didn't even share the posts anywhere, to just chucking the links on Twitter to see if we'd get a response to now having full social media audiences asking for us to write about specific things, visit certain places or give an opinion on current affairs. Blogging has changed so much and yet starting to write was one of the best decisions I ever made. It's turned into a job that I can do from home - or anywhere in the world with an often inconsistent but much appreciated income. But, more importantly, it has given me the work/life balance I had only ever dreamed of. Walking the kids to school, being there for sports day, not having to rink in sick when the kids got a virus. The kids are bigger now - both at secondary school - but I'll never stop being grateful for having that flexibility. So, that is what it means to me to be a parent blogger. Blogging about family life, around the kids, whilst always being there for the kids. I couldn't be more proud to be in the Top 20. Thanks Vuelio! https://lnkd.in/e6AYFQs3

What’s the best thing about September? It’s the month of birthdays! My mother, mother-in-law and I have birthdays on three consecutive days. I, eh, wanted to put it out there, that's all. So, what is microblogging? As the term suggests, ‘microblogging’ is defined as brief high-density content shared online. This includes text, images, GIFs, memes, audio and video clips and hyperlinks. In a world that demands constant, short and to-the-point content, the term ‘microblogging’ began with the arrival of Twitter (now X) in 2006. This was followed by other social media platforms such as Tumblr, Instagram, Reddit and Pinterest. Apart from posting what’s on your mind without any long-term commitment, it forms an inclusive community related to your niche. Though traditional blogging brings so much more value, getting noticed takes time and effort. Before I started blogging on Medium as a young adult, I would tinker with microblogs. Tumblr was something that stood out to me with its colourful user interface, cartoon-like typography and visual media. Unlike my presence on traditional blogs, I had nothing much to say. I didn’t have a niche, and I posted fan fiction about the Harry Potter series. I soon quit microblogging, but I do want to get back to it after a while. Despite being someone who generally likes long-form content, epigrammatic content does appeal to me. It’s highly addictive, keeps you updated with what’s going on in the world and is easily shareable — things that make it so much more convenient. . . . #microblog #microblogging #blogs #blogger #blogging
