The Statue of Liberty 🗽 will be 138 years old in October. That's monumental. The statue has endured both World War I and World War II. 🔫 💪🏻 The statue has been struck by lightning 600 times. 😱 The torch symbolizes liberty, freedom, inspiration, knowledge, and enlightenment.📢📯 People have been prohibited from climbing to the torch because, in 1916, it was damaged by a German attack. The original torch was replaced after the explosion. 🪖💣💥 The torch was replaced in 1986 due to the explosion. It reflects the sun's rays during the day and is illuminated by 16 LED floodlights at night. SHARE MY THOUGHTS WITH ME 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 So lately, I've been urging people to deeply consider the causes they claim to support. As some of you already know, I'm pulled to structures and systems that outlive generations. Whatever cause or vision you're contributing to or pioneering, please think of future generations, think of posterity. Please don't live solely for yourself; think inclusion. LET'S INTERACT. ✍🏻 What major cause or vision are you contributing to? Are you pioneering any cause? 💪🏻🔥 What intrigues you about the Statue of Liberty? Can you spot any leadership and management lessons from the Statue of Liberty? 🗽😍 #statue #statueofliberty #generations #posterity #people #inspiration #knowledge #globalvisibilitychallengewithdrvivianmagnus _______________________________ Meeting me for the first time? 🎨 Jean-Michel Basquiat: Revolutionizing Art & Society 🎨 Jean-Michel Basquiat wasn't just an artist; he was a force that challenged and reshaped our understanding of art's power. Through his bold strokes and raw, emotive symbols, Basquiat tackled themes of race, inequality, and identity, firmly establishing himself as a pivotal figure in neo-expressionism. 🌟 A Legacy Beyond the Canvas 🌟 Basquiat's work, a vibrant fusion of graffiti and fine art, invites us to reflect on societal structures and the role of art in advocating change. His legacy is a testament to the enduring power of art to question, to provoke, and to inspire. ⬇ As we remember Basquiat today, let's carry forward his courage to explore, challenge, and transform. MAKE ART NOT WAR. In response to the pressing conflicts of our time, we present the "Make Art Not War" T-shirt, a powerful statement for peace and creativity. This series blends the spirit of protest with a reverence for iconic Human Rights activists and symbols of peace. At the heart of the collection is Jess McDonald's hand-drawn illustration of Pax, the Roman Goddess of Peace, boldly emblazoned with graffiti-style lettering that reads "Make Art Not War." This design harks back to the 1960s mantra, "Make Love, Not War," and draws inspiration from Shepard Fairey’s iconic "Make Art Not War" poster, first created during the Iraq War. This T-shirt is more than just apparel—it’s a message of resistance, hope, and the enduring power of art to foster change. Each purchase helps spread that message, with 10% of profits going directly to Unicef, supporting children affected by war and conflict. https://lnkd.in/g5Mhy6fW

What is the role of the artist? James Baldwin said, "The role of the artist is exactly the same as the role of the lover. If I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things you don’t see." Or similarly, as Rick Rubin suggests, "Art is our portal to the unseen world.” Artists illuminate our interiors and bring forth that which we haven't known, or haven't known how to articulate. They have risked their heart and soul, and they are in service to the art. In today's market, brands are art, and artists are brands. This raises the question, is it art if it is made for the consumer? This exchange informs the art and blurs the artist's intent. In this relationship, the artist needs to be protected—they need boundaries for the abundance of expression. If we look at Rick Rubin's artist priorities, "Inspiration comes first. You come next. The audience comes last.” With this order in mind, the artist in service to a brand has their priorities inverted. Art is made through the channel that is your expression, only as you can share it, only yours throughout all space and time, and made for art's sake. Let's practice uplifting the artist in each of us and in our society at large. Make art a priority. Recognize that it has been the lifeblood of our communities, culture, and commerce for all of history. Here are our antidotes for the artist within and those all around us. https://lnkd.in/ensT3WRi

It's a positive shift to see more living individuals being commemorated in public sculptures. It's great to celebrate diversity and give recognition to talents that have been overlooked, especially among black men and women whose stories often go untold. Yet, as Art UK points out, the imbalance remains, with most public sculptures still depicting white men. It's an important reminder of the ongoing need to tackle historical inequalities and ensure the world around us reflects everyone's contributions. https://lnkd.in/dz-x4BgX.

KUDOS Artistic Milliners: Witnessing moments of #resilience and #determination can truly be a transformative experience. Today, I stumbled upon a sight that encapsulated the essence of sheer willpower and the power of community support. A disabled man was seen on his three-wheeler bike, on a mission to reach Artistic Milliners Unit 5. What struck me most was not just his physical journey, but the unwavering spirit driving him forward – the determination to provide for his family despite the odds stacked against him. Kudos to the Artistic Milliners team for embodying a vision of #upliftment and #empowerment. Their commitment to supporting individuals like this gentleman goes beyond corporate #socialresponsibility; it reflects a genuine ethos of #compassion and #inclusion. It's moments like these that remind us of the profound impact businesses can have when they prioritize social good alongside their bottom line. Artistic Milliners isn't just a top organization globally because of its innovative products or market presence; it's because they recognize the humanity in every individual and actively strive to make a positive difference in their lives. Let's take a moment to salute the unsung heroes like the man and the teams at Artistic Milliners who are dedicated to making the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time. I am sure such examples are all around us in all the organizations and together, let's continue to uplift and support those around us, for it's in these collective efforts that true greatness lies. #Inspiration #CommunitySupport #ArtisticMilliners #Humanity #CorporateResponsibility #SocialGood

HAPPY SF PRIDE 2024. I will be marching in the 2024 PRIDE Parade with the contingent #Verasphere & #OpenHouse. I designed and hand-sewed my Kimono Swing Coat that is featured in this video. I Going to be 67 years of age in July, 2024, So this is what 66 years of age looks like in 2024. Change your perceptions about #DNASTREETSTYLE by discovering your own cellular legacy and lineage about your family's historic #DNA legacy. What I have uncovered about my 500,000K-80,000K DNA tests, is that our concept of RACE is a horrid Pseudo -Science designed by Sir Francis Gaulton (Bigoted Father of Eugenics)" My 33 DNA Geological markers cover every continent on this globe. SO how can I just be "one" identity? I am a GLOBAL CITIZEN, not a color or FAKE RACE. If you all do you research on why Sir Francis Gualton created the fake pseudo-science of Eugenics... it will bring light to the structural evil that he created and is operating out and open in every interlocking systems of oppression and social operation in our lives. I was born during Jim Crow (1865-1965) a LEGAL and Federal mandate... an apartheid systems of Segregation in the USA that was a FEDERAL mandate in all 50 states in the USA. It operated differently State to State and people only think it was just in the South of the USA.. This happened and is still happening here in California/Bay Area as well and all other states. The idea that I am One thing based on what I look like. is pseudo-science and totally false! the worst thing I have experienced in my life started at school when I was 5 years old, when another 5-year (dominant hegemonic white presenting male) old called me an "Ape" and my mother was a "Gorilla"... and his mother just laughed at the the 5-years old boy that called me that evil thing (His name is Dean Haley). Still today, I am harassed in San Francisco, profiled, spat on, verbally abused by doctors and the general public, and physically attacked on the street for looking like I look in San Francisco and beyond. However, these bigots and bullies...are attacking not only me, they are attacking themselves, because my DNA 33 geographic markers are in Asia & South East Asia, Australia, Europe, North/South America, and Africa (North, East, South, West). +++ Photos, videos, & Digital Art Designed by April Martin Chartrand, M.S., San Francisco, CA. This post may ruffle some feathers. But, as a great lover of art, not expressing it seems wrong. Surely there’s still worth left in honestly sharing a perspective. Art may often explore identity, but it has no business dabbling in identity politics. A thought that the good folks on the boards and managements of our art institutions and art-funding organizations may be well-served to consider. The idea applies to film, TV, and streamed entertainment as well. Is it possible that art public funding (and to some degree also private and non-profit) in our country has created a new preferred and privileged class? Those willing to place identity and victimhood at the crux of their application. The privileging of marginalization, to use a wonderful phrase I read in an article recently. To all those good folks in charge and power: support artists and the artistic impulse, not identity politics and identity-based creative enterprises. Support artists, who may or may not explore identity in their work, or who may draw from pain or personal memory, not the identity-fixated, or the charlatans, who just use art and art funding as an opportunity of the day. Support individuality of expression, and great stories and great storytelling that have universal human appeal (then you might actually help create empathy for the marginalized), not projects that speak to a limited group on the basis of identity. First ask what’s the story, not which identity group the applicant belongs to. Art has a higher purpose, it is not anyone’s tool for social engineering. Art, and the process of supporting it, is not meant to politicize or divide societies into subsets, where people see themselves only as that tribe, group, or acronym. Art should, and can, bring people together and make us empathise with each other. True and good art is universal, even if it explores a very particular. Art stirs that deep part in us that we all share as humans. Something to consider in earnest. Otherwise you may risk irrelevance, and diminished support for publicly funded art.
