Friends - On this #GivingTuesday, Literacy Partners is aiming to raise $20,000 to grow our work of advancing literacy, two generations at a time. Big or small, you can make a gift here: https://lnkd.in/grnz58pd Did you know that 54% of adult Americans cannot read at a 6th-grade level? These barriers to literacy affect the next generation as well. Two of every three low-income children can’t read at a basic level in 4th grade. Take a step toward creating better futures for all of us. #ReadingChangesEverything

We applaud the National Literacy Trust and Jonathan Douglas CBE, Hon FRSL, for launching the visionary “Changing Stories Together” initiative this week. In a transformative and empowering move, initiatives like these instill hope, uniting businesses, educators, governments, and society with a shared focus on universal literacy. This big and bold three-year strategy (2024-2027) brings hope, addressing the evolving literacy challenges of our time. With a focus on technology’s role and the stark realities of child poverty, the Trust is ready to uplift communities and make reading and writing a key part of our country’s growth. The initiative unfolds across three pivotal pillars: Literacy to Grow: Ensuring every child enters school equipped with the foundational language and communication skills. Literacy to Learn: Guiding every young individual to leave school with the literacy tools necessary for life’s journey. Literacy to Thrive: Offering those exiting the criminal justice system a chance at a brighter future through improved literacy. At Storytime, our mission resonates deeply with these goals. We believe in the power of reading to level the playing field, offering every child a universe of possibilities through the stories we craft and share monthly. With over 900 tales in various formats, we try to bridge the gaps technology has created and helping new generations embrace it one story at a time. We’re 100% committed to fostering a lifelong passion for reading that transcends barriers and promotes opportunities for all. It’s our passion, our mission, and our joy to know in over 60 countries around the world, we are helping to inspire children to be anything the way to be. We hope to play a part in this remarkable initiative and continue to promote literacy as the key to unlocking potential and changing stories together. #LiteracyEmpowerment #ChangingStoriesTogether #BeProudReadAloud #ReadingforPleasure #ReadingSkills #LiteracyForAll Read the strategy and join us, in supporting it: (link in comments)

Investing in Connecticut Children’s Future: A Successful Literacy Roundtable! I’m thrilled to share that last week, Rep. Robin Comey and Rep. Dominique E. Johnson co-hosted a Literacy Roundtable focused on the importance of early literacy programs. Our very own Alexander Chu from Reach Out and Read, Northeast was one of many passionate literacy advocates who participated in the roundtable discussion. Connecticut made a significant commitment in the 2023 budget by allocating $1 million for statewide investments in evidence-based early literacy curricula and teaching practices. Research overwhelmingly shows this approach has a lasting impact: 📘 Improved school achievement 📘 Enhanced emotional and social well-being for children 📘 Reduced grade retentions 📘 Lower rates of juvenile delinquency Investing in early literacy programs is an investment in our children’s future. Let’s keep this momentum going! If you’d like to learn more about the discussion, you can watch the entire event on CT-N: https://lnkd.in/eNHCqFRi #Literacy #EarlyChildhoodEducation #Community #Connecticut #ReachOutandRead #RORNE

A mother's reading skill is the foremost predictor of her children's academic success, eclipsing factors like neighborhood and family income. This underscores a powerful truth: supporting adult education, especially for mothers, echoes far beyond individual achievement—it's an investment in the fabric of our families and the scaffolding of our society. 👩👧👦 Family Impact: Enhancing literacy in adults, particularly mothers (or primary caregivers), sets a trajectory for children’s educational paths, instilling early literacy and a passion for learning. 🌈 Societal Benefits: Educated parents pave the way for brighter futures, breaking cycles of poverty and fostering a culture of learning that benefits entire communities. This Advocacy April, let's amplify our support for adult learners. Elevating adult education strengthens families, enriches communities, and lays the groundwork for our collective future. #AdvocacyApril #AdultEducation #FamilyLiteracy Coalition on Adult Basic Education Erin Vobornik
