Despite the growing variety of electric vehicles being produced the limited availability of nationwide charging infrastructure that remains a significant challenge on the path to widespread EV adoption. "But this needn’t be the case indefinitely," writes Nicholas D. Hughes, JD CPPO, Cooperative Portfolio Manager at NASPO ValuePoint in a new Guest Column for Barrett and Greene Inc. "thanks to state and local procurement officials who are recognizing the pressing need for a robust EV charging infrastructure." Hughes argues that "by leveraging cooperative purchasing agreements, states can streamline the deployment of the EV charging infrastructure and advance their sustainability goals. These agreements enable agencies to select from environmentally responsible, pre-vetted vendors that offer technological solutions that support long-term environmental objectives." IRS guidance on electric drive incentives will provide clarity for the stakeholders throughout the value chain WASHINGTON – Following the IRS release of guidance on Section 30D and 25E incentives, Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) President Genevieve Cullen said, “The Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) shares the Administration’s vision for an electrified fleet, and our members are working to expand manufacturing capacity and strengthen the supply chains essential to meeting the nation’s climate, energy and economic security goals.” Cullen continued, “We appreciate the Administration’s efforts to accelerate the transition to e-mobility, including the guidance released today, which will provide clarity for the stakeholders throughout the electric drive value chain who are innovating and investing in an electrified future. The incentives in the IRA, including the 30D and 25E vehicle credits, are essential to building US leadership and expanding consumers’ access to electric transportation. Today’s guidance is an important step forward in achieving those aims.”

Well the good news is these articles are the furthest from the truth. As we know, Rome wasn't built in a day - and neither are charging stations especially when tied to competitive procurement and rulemaking. Additional good news, states are taking action. Bridges are not built in a day, neither are highways, however State DOTs across the nation are accelerating their pace on distributing the funds for EV chargers that have been allocated by the federal government. Not to mention, this is a five year program, and State DOTs are still in the first phase of funding allocations. Looking forward to the news articles next year about the 1000s of chargers built by the efforts happening today. https://lnkd.in/etzjYumd

Keeping tabs on the regulatory environment is a key component of our work here at Wayne Perry. The Western U.S. is spearheading the transition to alternative fueling options, bolstered by significant regulatory support at both federal and state levels. From the billions allocated by the NEVI Program for EV charging infrastructures to tax incentives under the AITC, the push for a greener future is strong. States like California and Oregon are not just encouraging but mandating the shift, with policies like the ZEV Mandate and the Low Carbon Fuel Standard accelerating the adoption of cleaner fuels. These evolving regulations promise to reshape our energy landscape, making alternative fuel stations a smart and sustainable investment for the future. Let's discuss how these changes can fuel your next project: https://bit.ly/3xxjANM #AlternativeEnergy #RegulatorySupport #SustainableInvestment
