The new government will introduce the Children’s Wellbeing Bill in the next year to legislate for a raft of its education policies, the King’s Speech has confirmed. The King’s Speech, delivered during the state opening of Parliament, sets out the legislative priorities for the government over the next year-long session. Here’s what the government says the new Children’s Wellbeing bill will aim to do… 🔹 Strengthen multi-agency child protection and safeguarding arrangements 🔹 Require free breakfast clubs in every primary school 🔹 Create a duty on councils to have and maintain children not in school registers and provide support to home-educating parents 🔹 Provide Ofsted with stronger powers to investigate the offence of operating an unregistered independent school 🔹 Enable serious teacher misconduct to be investigated, regardless of when the misconduct occurred, the setting the teacher is employed in, and how the misconduct is uncovered 🔹 Require all schools to cooperate with the local authority on school admissions, SEND inclusion, and place planning, by giving local authorities greater powers to help them deliver their functions on school admissions and ensure admissions decisions account for the needs for communities 🔹 Require all schools to teach the national curriculum. This measure will be commenced after the review of curriculum and assessment is concluded and is reflected in programmes of study. The review will set the foundations to equip every child with the essential knowledge and skills for the future 🔹 Ensure any new teacher entering the classroom has, or is working towards, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Early Childhood Education During the Enlightenment, ECE became a popular topic of study, especially in highly literate European nations.As universal primary education spread throughout the West during the nineteenth century, it kept expanding. Early childhood education[4] has gained popularity as a public policy concern in recent years, as state, local, and federal legislators have discussed preschool and pre-K spending.Regulators are also disputing whether developmentally appropriate play or rigorous academic preparation curricula in arithmetic, reading, and writing should be the primary focus of early childhood education.The objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 highlight the importance of early childhood education on a worldwide scale. However, by 2023, "Saharan Africa" Obstacles and difficulties Violence, abuse, and child labor all have a negative impact on children's learning capacity and results. Preserving young children from violence and exploitation is therefore among the general concerns of education. Gareth Davies, head of the National Audit Office, recently highlighted the urgent need for a more effective approach to managing the rising costs of Special Educational Needs (SEN). With annual costs exceeding £10 billion and demand set to grow, he emphasized the need for a cohesive, whole-system solution that prioritizes inclusive education. A trauma-informed approach, rooted in understanding the neuroscience of learning and the impact of stress, is key to creating a more inclusive system. This shift would support educators in addressing the emotional and mental well-being of children with SEN, fostering a compassionate, person-centered environment. It’s time for radical reform—moving away from overly legalistic structures toward authentic inclusion and simplified, transparent processes that truly meet the needs of all children.

The new Labour Government plans to introduce a Children’s Wellbeing Bill, which will mandate schools to work with local authorities on admissions, SEND inclusion, and place planning. This announcement was made in the King’s Speech on 17 July. The Government states that the Children’s Wellbeing Bill aims to “remove barriers to opportunity” and “raise school standards” to ensure fairness in the school system for every child. The Bill's main points include: Ensuring children are safe, happy, and rooted in their communities by strengthening multi-agency child protection and safeguarding arrangements. Mandating free breakfast clubs in all primary schools to ensure every child is well-prepared for the school day, regardless of their circumstances. Introducing legislation to limit the number of branded uniform and PE kit items that schools can require, reducing costs for parents and removing barriers to accessing school activities. Requiring local authorities to maintain Children Not in School registers and support home-educating parents. Changing legislation to regulate and inspect independent schools, giving Ofsted more power to investigate unregistered independent schools. Enabling serious teacher misconduct to be investigated. Requiring all schools to cooperate with local authorities on admissions, SEND inclusion, and place planning. Ensuring greater consistency between academies and maintained schools by requiring all schools to teach the national curriculum. Recognising the teaching profession by ensuring new teachers have, or are working towards, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Bringing multi-academy trusts into the inspection system to make it fairer and more transparent. Multi-academy trusts manage over 45% of state schools. The current inspection system focuses on individual schools, without powers to evaluate the trust's overall effectiveness. The Government notes significant variation in performance at the trust level. In conclusion, the new legislation aims to create a fairer and more supportive school system, addressing key issues such as child protection, uniform costs, teacher misconduct, and the performance of multi-academy trusts. #SEND #sundaymotivation #disability

A shift back to the #Salamanca Statement? * Every child has a fundamental right to education and must be given the opportunity to achieve and maintain an acceptable level of learning. * Every child has unique characteristics, interests, abilities, and learning needs. * Education systems should be designed, and educational programs implemented, to take into account the wide diversity of these characteristics and needs. * Children with special educational needs must have access to regular schools, which should accommodate them within a child-centered pedagogy capable of meeting their needs. * Regular schools with this inclusive orientation are the most effective means of combating discriminatory attitudes, creating welcoming communities, building an inclusive society, and achieving education for all. Moreover, they provide effective education to the majority of children and improve the efficiency and, ultimately, the cost-effectiveness of the entire education system. If so, worth noting the call on the government: - Give the highest policy and budgetary priority to improving their education systems to enable the inclusion of all children, regardless of individual differences or difficulties. - Adopt, as a matter of law or policy, the principle of inclusive education by enrolling all children in regular schools, unless there are compelling reasons to do otherwise. - Establish decentralized and participatory mechanisms for planning, monitoring, and evaluating educational provisions for children and adults with special educational needs. - Encourage and facilitate the participation of parents, communities, and organizations of persons with disabilities in the planning and decision-making processes concerning provisions for special educational needs. Ultimately, its about additional funding and resources, for the various providers in (E)ducation, (H)eath, (C)are, to ensure there are effectively funded (P)lans. #SEN #INCLUSION

I read an interesting article via The Independent today, that highlighted more than a fifth of school-age unaccompanied children seeking asylum were not in school as of March last year. I can imagine this is also a high figure for many young people in Residential Care which is very concerning! 🤯 These young people should be encouraged with education & given the chance to learn crucial skills that can only be gained by attending school.
