Barry Morrissey’s Post

📝My paper in the latest issue of 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝑺𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 looks at the curricular component to child protection in schools in Ireland. The article is entitled: ‘Enacting a child safety education programme in special education contexts’. 🔍 In this study, Seline Keating, Fiona King and I complete a deep dive on how teachers in special schools across Ireland navigate the mandatory Stay Safe programme with students with varying levels of special educational needs / disabilities (SEND). The findings highlight the creative ways special education teachers adapt this sensitive area of the SPHE curriculum, to meet the diverse needs of students with SEND. 🎯 Two key insights: - The necessity for greater flexibility in mandated programmes for special education contexts - The importance of ongoing professional development to enhance teacher expertise in modifying educational content 📚Ensuring that all children, regardless of ability, receive essential child safety education is vital. This research underscores the need for policies that allow for adaptability while maintaining robust child protection measures. 👉 Read the full article here: a https://lnkd.in/eXxPynQ7 #ChildProtection #SpecialEducation #EducationPolicy #TeacherDevelopment #Research #StaySafeProgramme
