COMMUNITY WRITING; The Science of Writing I have been supporting schools as they teach writing in Kindergarten and First grades. Community Writing along with writing about what they are reading creates a format to integrate and apply all they learned through systematic phonics instruction. Research shows this practice increases reading comprehension and word reading accuracy. Because most Science of Reading focuses teachers on teaching phonics, they are noticing that children struggle with comprehension. See Harvard Educational Review; Writing to Read: A Meta-Analysis of the Impact of Writing and Writing Instruction on Reading.

As an educator, you know how important reading instruction is to literacy development, but what about writing instruction? The Science of Reading mainly focuses on explicit instruction of foundational literacy skills, but it can also tell us a lot about how students learn to write and why strong writing skills are critical to academic success. Read about the Science of Writing and how to effectively integrate writing into K-5 literacy instruction.

This book on college writing is truly unique in the ways that addresses "Helping" College Students Write as opposed to "Teaching" College Students to Write. Writing is intensely personal and NOT writing may also be intensely personal. Such a book cannot be a "third-person how-to" and the authors share openly their experiences as professors and students who write and are being asked to write academically. HIGHLY recommended: https://lnkd.in/gX_xkqAj

Indeed a fantastic initiative! Creating a ruled book for students and teachers is a great way to encourage organization, structure, and effective writing. A ruled book can provide students with a consistent space for jotting down their thoughts, taking notes, or completing assignments, which helps them focus on their writing skills. It can also serve as a helpful tool for teachers when giving assignments, providing feedback, or guiding students through the writing process. Such a book can be especially useful for fostering good handwriting, neatness, and discipline in writing. Additionally, it could offer teachers a standardized way to monitor students' progress in their writing journey. If you can, consider adding sections for prompts, reflections, or tips on how to improve writing, which could further support both students and teachers in their learning and teaching. I thought about how writing impacts both groups, and this ruled book can be a practical tool to help them grow and succeed in this vital skill.

Reading and writing go hand in hand. 🤝 Writing about assigned reading allows students to better understand the text and make connections with it. It also helps them learn how to write well by modeling good writing in the texts they read.
