As we work toward Summer 2025, we must take a moment to look back and celebrate the wins of Summer 2024 and reflect on opportunities for continued improvement, both of which will help our summer ecosystem move forward with planning a summer of smiling faces and summer opportunities accessible to all children in Baltimore. #SummerThrive2025 #BmoreSummer #SummerRecap

Youth Development Organization (YDO) 2024 summer program employed 57 high school & college students from the Lawrence area to mentor 167 students in grades 3-8. They offered 43 different STEM and arts classes - all designed around participants' interest and taught by and for kids. This is what developing our youth (not just education) should look like. This is how we give kids in inner cities a better chance. If you're moved like I've been for the last 10 years, consider investing.

What a great example of creating STRATEGIC IMPACT through Business & Community Collaboration! ❤️ It started as a simple "Lunch & Learn" event, hosted by Lin Adi & Credit Union of Texas - Plano, attracting over 70 Business, Community & Civic Leaders from the City of Plano, City of Frisco & #CollinCounty - a suburb of the City of Dallas. As Guest Speaker, I focused on "What is STRATEGIC IMPACT through Business & Community Collaboration & Why It Matters." As part of the program, a very generous Door Prize of a Credit Union of Texas FOOD TRUCK, was won by Kelley Thomas of #PTA. This photo captures that great event, now on a wall in a #CUTX Conference Room! Over several months of meeting with Kelley, brainstorming & looking at data of #PTAs in #CollinCounty, we created a vision & amazing program, leading to a Proposal, "Family Life Skills Fun Fair!" sent to prospect Corporate Partner Sponsors. Creating a PTA in ACTION Program, we focused on "Making Every Child's POTENTIAL a REALITY," a #NationalPTA slogan & goal. Credit Union of Texas was already a Corporate Partner Sponsor & through key deliberations, we tweaked our initial program to a more manageable project, with Credit Union of Texas being our Corporate Partner Sponsor - for which we are so grateful. Our initial concept may be woven into #PTA programming in the school year for Children & Parents, focusing on #FinancialLiteracy, #VisionBoarding & #LifeGoalsPlanning, #HealthWellness & more in STRATEGICALLY IMPACTFUL ways. The primary focus of our event will be "What is PTA & Why Is It Important?" Through a New School-Year Kick-Off Community-wide event next September, a "PTA Family Picnic Day" with fun activities including Face-Painting, Video Game Truck, DJ & Music, Community Booths & other fun activities, we will be bringing families together & showcasing #PTAMembership & the Importance of PTA. For many of us, we know through our own life experience in growing up in America & our parents'/Mom's engagement in our local PTAs, how important & valuable this School-Teacher/Administration-Parents-Children-Family-Home Connection truly is. It is part of the fabric of American Life & central to our local #Communities & #ChildrenEducation. However, in studying the data & demographics of Communities & Families in what I call Today's America, we realized that many parents today did not grow up with PTA as a Partner & Support in the School-Family-Home Connection. Many of Today's Parents may have come to America as Children & their Parents were not yet acclimated to American Life in these ways. That, in turn, has led to the decline of #PTA Memberships throughout America. Kelley Thomas, Lin Adi & I want to CHANGE & IMPROVE those statistics to STRATEGICALLY IMPACT the Lives of Children, Families, Communities, Public Schools & Society. Supporting the #NationalPTA's pillar of #FamilyEngagement, we are excited to create #STRATEGICIMPACT through Business & Community Collaboration. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I went to watch a middle school XC meet recently. It was raining and I imagine those MS boys were there more for the sloppy mud and the pre-race cheering than the run. Cross country teams are well-known for being welcoming and encouraging. My own kids are long past middle school XC, but I was there to watch friends' sons run. There’s something special about supporting friends, cheering for their kids, and stepping back into a familiar space as an older version of myself. Of course, the meet got me thinking about teams; I think about teams a lot. It’s in teams where the magic happens—ideas are born, confidence builds, innovation sparks and identities form. However, as adults, being on a team doesn’t always mean being part of a team. Just having a team doesn’t guarantee it’ll be effective. But that’s not the case with middle school cross country. They’re “on the team,” fully in it together—whether they’re scrawny, gangly, chunky, confident, or indifferent. And they run. Around flags, corners, over hills, and through muddy paths. We stand and cheer for all of them, even the ones we don’t know—the ones at the back of the pack who might not even finish. But they’re out there. They said yes to the team, the work, the experience–and they’ll be better for it. The key to innovation, satisfaction, and effectiveness lies in strong teams. This means knowing and developing people is paramount to creating high-quality, impactful work—anywhere. Maybe we can learn from those MS boys: decide to practice and show up; be yourself and start where you are; stay in the race and cheer when you can; keep pace, then regroup and do it all over again. We’re not middle schoolers, but we’re still on teams. I’d love to hear your perspective and/or experiences with teams! What has shaped your understanding and success in teams? What tools have been most helpful for bringing teams together? What causes the biggest disconnect for teams: generational differences, unclear communication, inconsistent expectations, or something else?

Summer is coming to an end, but the memories of our first #SummerCamp edition will last a lifetime! ☀️ During the month of August, our little ones enjoyed a ton of adventures and experiences. It was a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and have fun together. 🌈 Two key takeaways: 1. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: We saw how our kids collaborated to overcome challenges and achieve common goals. 💪 2. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲: The camp fostered the imagination and artistic expression of our young talents. 🎨 What do you think about the importance of summer camps for professional and personal development?🤔 #SummerCamp #ThePerfectFlow
