As agencies grow, they tend to add more and more services to their mix. And while this is great to up and cross-sell current clients, it leaves their sales proposition lost in the messy middle ground. This is when they start to talk in meaningless sweeping statements about the future, impact or transformation. But this rarely resonates with anybody apart from the person paid to write it. They have to desperately reinvent the wheel for every pitch deck, eating into profitability and burning out the team before the big pitch itself. And everybody starts making up their own interpretation of what the agency's all about, meaning it all ends up a huge mess of mixed ideas that lack confidence. This is when you need to invest in finding that red thread that runs through everything. That unifying idea that makes it all make sense. That big hairy idea that hits people between the eyes with its simplicity, specificity and ability to speak to their real needs. It's never an easy process.
