The winds of change are sweeping across Europe as it boldly advances towards a sustainable future. Renewable fuels are at the vanguard of this seismic shift, transforming the continent's energy landscape. 🌱⚡️ From solar to wind and bioenergy, Europe is not just cutting emissions but propelling a movement that could redefine global energy norms. With growing investments and innovation, the renewable sector points towards not only environmental stewardship but also significant economic opportunity. However, the road ahead isn't without challenges. Infrastructure, policy, and market dynamics all dance in a complex interplay that will determine the pace of this transition. 🛣️ Yet, the promise of cleaner air, energy independence, and job creation holds strong as millions across the continent rally for this green revolution. As stakeholders ponder the next steps, it's clear that collaboration, investment in technology, and supportive legislation will be key. The journey to a fully renewable energy system is convoluted, but Europe's commitment serves as a beacon for others to follow. #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFuture #EuropeEnergyTransition

The rapid growth of solar energy is key to achieving climate goals and addressing global climate change. Responsible politicians are keen to point out that we are on the right track in this respect. Based on the capacity installed last year and the increasing supply from renewable sources. Unfortunately, there are significant challenges that many companies in the solar industry in Europe and Germany are currently facing: ❌ oversupply from Asian competitors, ❌ lack of incentives for European companies, ❌ uncertainties ahead of upcoming elections in the EU and the US. That is why I support the Green Deal Declaration, which we have signed together with 500 cross-sector companies and organizations. Our demands are clear: confirm the EU Green Deal as a top priority in the next EU Strategic Agenda, and complement it with a Clean Industrial Deal that is in line with the Green Deal objectives: ✅ Align all EU financial instruments with the Green Deal objectives for 2030 and beyond, including ✅ establishing a new Clean Industrial Deal Investment Plan as part of the next EU budget; supporting cities and regions in the transition. ✅ Appoint an Executive Vice-President for both the Green and Industrial Deals to ensure both competitiveness and decarbonization objectives are met in the most efficient way. Yesterday was the start of #POLITICOSustainableWeek! "The transition is not happening quickly enough. However, this year marks a pivotal moment, as the International Energy Agency (IEA) projects global investment in clean energy alternatives will surpass $2 trillion—nearly double the amount being invested in new fossil fuel projects. The exponential growth in solar and renewables is undeniable, but we must accelerate this progress. Electrification of transport and heating is essential as well to meet the pace required. Europe has the potential to lead this transition.” - Eamon Ryan, Irish Minister for the Environment, Climate, Communications and Transport. Meanwhile, in France. The France2030 programme aim to boost productivity and increase the competitiveness of French businesses by encouraging investment and innovation in priority sectors to drive growth. The energy sector is defined as one of them, and sustainable and renewable heating is a prime focus area. France aim to grow it’s market share of district heating from today’s 7% reaching 20% by 2030, focusing on implementing renewable resources. To support the transition, financial support via Le Fonds Chaleur allots 250 million euros per year. With more than 60% renewable and waste heat energy, the French district heating sector have reduced the CO2 emissions by half over the last decade. France aim to reach 73% renewable and waste heat energy by 2030. Une initiative digne d'éloges. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The Swedish climate-tech industry has a broad range of solutions to support and accelerate the French transition. Solutions that are already available on the market and need to get implemented in a larger and faster scale. Collaborations are now being established. Let’s be ambitious! It is important that the European industry takes a clear position right now! The protection of our climate must not become an issue for political calculation and populist arguments. We need European unity for the "Green Deal", for the transformation of our industry and society towards climate neutrality and sustainability! #allelectricsociety

Having had the honour to attend the European Sustainable Energy Week 2024 (#EUSEW2024) in Brussels, Belgium last week as one of the Youth Energy Ambassadors, I’d like to reflect on some of the most memorable insights. 🗾 Seeing that the Central and Eastern European countries make up 20% of the EU population and account for 17% of the EU electricity demand (E3G, CEE Bankwatch Network), leveraging the region’s potential for #renewables as well as for #energyefficiency is more critical for the #energytransition than we might think. Hence it was delightful to see NPOs such as CEESEN / Central Eastern European Sustainable Energy Network acting as the region's voice within the EU as well as numerous sessions on the CEE’s role in a more #sustainableenergy landscape. 💸 Of particular interest were thoughts on #cleantech finance by Marcin Wasilewski, CEO at EIT InnoEnergy CE. As the CEE’s perceived risk factor due to geopolitical factors is high, longer horizon and CapEx heavy investments are difficult to pursue. Yet, international financial institutions such as EBRD are well-suited to turn this challenge into an opportunity by helping to remove some of the barriers investors are facing. The ultimate goal thereby shall be fostering an #energytransition that allows the Union to not just create jobs, but to capitalize on tax benefits from European technologies. 🔬 Derisking cleantech projects is pivotal for the whole of Europe’s energy transition. Echoing the points of Thomas Östros, Vice President of European Investment Bank (EIB), ‘a third of the cuts in emissions is estimated to come from technologies that are either not yet available or at least not cost competitive. This means that we have to bet on technologies that we cannot find on the shelf’. As a lack of diversity in our sustainable energy technologies would increase Europe’s energy insecurity, we need to, moreover, create an enabling environment for a variety of novel technologies. This way, we may allow for outcomes that 'tick all the boxes', i.e., ones that next to being economically feasible, socially supported and globally competitive, are also secure. 🌿 Stay tuned for the Young Energy Ambassadors' letter to the next Energy Commissioner in which we detail our proposed approach to the above! 😉 CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency
