Did you know that 81% of 11 to 18-year-olds can't name a single female entrepreneur? How do we change that statistic... By ensuring that everyone knows when they are buying a female founded brand, which is what I have written about in my latest column for The Grocer As Sahar Hashemi OBE and Barny Macaulay have put it in their quest to elevate BUY WOMEN BUILT: “Not everyone can invest in female founders. Not everyone can mentor female founders. But we can all buy from them.” Here's are just some of the ways we make a difference so that little girls can proudly shout the names of their favourite women in business next time they are asked! 🔥 Adding the 'Buy Women Built' kite mark to packaging 🔥 Spotlighting female entrepreneurs in TV, PR and media opportunities 🔥 Disruption at point of purchase (on shelf, or online) "you are buying from a female founded brand" 🔥 Buying their products, leaving reviews, sharing with friends, sharing on social platforms, and just generally shouting about these brands

*TRUMP GETS IN* If we can’t vote them in, let’s BUY them in. 💪 No I’m not talking about lobbying or coercive campaigns in Pennsylvania 🇺🇲 . I’m talking about BUY WOMEN BUILT. I don't think change has to come from who’s in power - I think we can all be part of change on a daily basis. BUY WOMEN BUILT, founded by Sahar Hashemi OBE, is all about uplifting and amplifying female-founded brands in a world where less than 2% of funding goes to women entrepreneurs. The idea is we can’t invest in all of them directly, but we can choose to buy from them - and that choice makes an impact. Here’s how it works: 🔹 A community of women supporting each other, sharing resources, and learning together. 🔹 A hustling team behind BWB securing prime display spots for female-led brands so they get extra visibility and are more likely to succeed. 🔹 A kitemark that engages consumers (most of whom are women) telling them - "a woman is behind this" And then this ➡ A young girl spots that BWB kitemark on a jar of peanut butter or a pack of toilet roll and realises what’s possible for her own future. WOMEN CAN BE LEADERS. I actually promised myself after my budget post to steer clear of politics, but waking up to the news today felt so bleak - and particularly for women. SO - I’m channeling that energy into celebrating the positive, powerful movements happening right now. Thank you BUY WOMEN BUILT and if you fancy partaking in the movement, shop their page on Ocado Retail here: https://lnkd.in/gpsgBxhi 📸 : Me outside the #BuyWomenBuilt window display at Wholefoods Market earlier this year.

Women have higher standards when it comes to the experiences they receive. We notice the details, expect empathy, and value consistency. 🤝 When you design your experiences with women in mind, everyone wins. 💪 when you forget her you loose her. Customers vote with their feet ( and fingers now online!). SHE influences 3-4 generations of purchasing decisions…that’s a lot of foot traffic she’s conducting. Let’s make this post fun! It’s a real honour to be collaborating with Buy Women Built and other female entrepreneurs for International Women’s Day. Buy Women Built (BWB) is a consumer movement shining a light on female entrepreneurs. For five weeks, it is taking over all seven Wholefoods Market stores in the UK to highlight women-built brands stocked by the chain. “The aim of the joint campaign is to provide a powerful message to consumers: If you want to empower and support women, it’s easy, just buy from them”, says Sahar Hashemi, founder of Buy Women Built and formerly Coffee Republic and Skinny Candy. A recent Forbes article looked at the benefits of being a female founder, which includes having a unique perspective and being skilled multi-taskers as well as being better collaborators. “Research has consistently found that women are better collaborators than men, which can make a big difference in their business results. Rather than adopting a competitive mindset, female founders are more likely to focus on working together to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.“ The Buy Women Built campaign epitomises this. It was so inspiring to attend the launch event earlier this week, to meet other female entrepreneurs and to feel the positive energy in the air. We truly are stronger together. #IWD #buywomenbuilt #strongertogether

A presentation I gave to the Business Women of Moose Jaw a couple of years ago. I used a great video from friends of mine Greg Moore and Justin Reves who started the infamous Moose wars and used comedy to make key points about how to be different and stand out. Now they are hosts on Z99!! Here is the link to the Every Business Video that I referred to in my presentation https://lnkd.in/gS48HsFq ---------- Below is a summary that was posted on the Business Women Facebook page of my presentation. ---------- When it comes to your marketing you need to remember 3 things just 3: 1. Keep it simple 2. Keep it consistent 3. Keep it real In order to accomplish these three goals, you will need to: 1. Make Time: diamonds – take time; seeds – take time – and the best plans – also take time. This also means taking the time to take breaks and enjoy life! But really give yourself the time to sit down and create a strategy and dig deep to find your ‘why’. Decide what it is about your story that will engage your follows and allow you to share your passion. 2. Discover Your Story: Crystal shared a video (watch on YouTube - link in comments). Her main point was not to mock the words in the video but to say that these words are likely true for almost every business in every industry. So how can YOU dig deeper to tell people who you really are? · Be BOLD and AUTHENTIC when sharing your ‘why’ · Care for something loudly – support your values through your words and actions · Use the 80/20 rule (see video clip of Crystal for an explanation of this). · Crystal shared some of her own story (it’s fascinating – feel free to ask her about her winery in the Okanagan where she came up with marketing strategies on a shoestring budget – AND how she did the same with Coteau Hills Creamery – her and her husband, Kirby’s, current endeavour – a cheese-making business). · Share YOUR FACE with the world – people fall in love with the person, not the product so don’t be shy! 3. Frequency a. Make use of all different marketing avenues that apply to your customers – overlap is good! The same person needs to take your message in at least SEVEN TIMES before it starts to sink in. b. Get SOCIAL on social media! Connect with other brands that share your values and promote them. Their audience will get a glimpse of you, and your audience will understand your values better! A few tips: - Overwhelmed? Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Hire someone if you need to. No one is born knowing how to be an accountant – it’s the same with marketing. - Youtube, webinars, facebook’s business training page (and all other socials) – all of these are great – usually free – ways to learn more about marketing https://lnkd.in/gAVKfdXc

In 2013, Dove launched their "Real Beauty Sketches" campaign, which aimed to challenge the beauty standards perpetuated by the media. In the campaign, women were asked to describe their own appearance to a forensic sketch artist, who then created two portraits: one based on the woman's self-description and another based on a description provided by a stranger who had briefly met the woman. The emotional punch of the campaign came when the women saw the two sketches side by side. The sketch based on the stranger's description consistently portrayed the women as more attractive and confident compared to the one based on their own self-description. This stark contrast highlighted the harsh self-criticism many women experience regarding their appearance. The campaign resonated deeply with audiences worldwide, sparking conversations about self-esteem and body image. By tapping into the emotions of self-perception and empowerment, Dove successfully positioned itself as a brand that champions real beauty and self-acceptance. This example demonstrates how emotional branding can leverage storytelling to connect with consumers on a personal level, driving brand affinity and advocacy.
