November 12 is National Survivors’ Day. 🎗️ Today is a day to recognise the incredible strength, resilience and bravery of survivors of sexual assault, child sexual abuse and institutional abuse. While today is one day, we recognise that every day is survivors day as the impacts from these traumas can be lifelong. That commitment shines through with theme of: Every Ribbon, Every Conversation, Every Voice. Every Ribbon represents an individual, a family, a whistleblower and a community that has been impacted by sexual assault. Every Conversation builds public awareness of the work being done to ensure necessary change-making takes place wherever abuse may occur. Every Voice contributes to a society that demonstrates our determination and our commitment to doing better by people who have been impacted by sexual assault. Change cannot be and is not achieved in isolation. Instead, it requires a collective and collaborative approach to change making - a series of voices committed to a better future. National Survivors’ Day is an opportunity for a community to come together to ensure a better and brighter future. Every Ribbon. Every Conversation. #EveryVoice. #NationalSurvivorsDay

What is intimate partner violence? Intimate partner violence, or IPV, refers to physical, sexual or psychological harm carried out by a current or former relationship partner or spouse. IPV includes domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. As we observe National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, keep an eye out for warning signs. If you think someone you know may be experiencing IPV, be respectful and supportive, listen patiently and openly, connect your friend to resources and ask what you can do to help. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological abuse. It can also cover actions like assault, stalking, and harassment. But domestic violence isn’t just defined by the act. The person committing the act is part of the equation. It’s a common misconception that you need to be married or in a long-term, live-in relationship with someone for actions to qualify as domestic violence. That is simply untrue. The abuse can be: ♦️ A current or former spouse ♦️ Someone you’ve dated ♦️ A co-parent ♦️ A current or former member of your household If you’re experiencing domestic violence, always prioritize your safety and contact the police first. Help us raise awareness by sharing this post.

Coercive control is not one behaviour or incident, but a pattern of controlling behaviour. It’s family and domestic violence, and it can cause serious harm, so it’s important to know the signs. Many think of family and domestic violence only in terms of physical or sexual harm, but it's crucial to also recognize coercive control. Thanks to survivor advocates and researchers, awareness of coercive control in family and intimate partner relationships has grown in recent years. 🚨 **Recognizing the Signs of Domestic Violence** 🚨 Domestic violence can often go unnoticed, but it’s crucial to be aware of the signs. Here are key indicators: 1. **Controlling Behavior:** Is your partner overly possessive or jealous? This could signify unhealthy dynamics. 2. **Emotional Abuse:** Look for patterns of belittling, humiliation, or manipulation that erode self-esteem. 3. **Isolation:** Does your partner try to cut you off from friends and family? Isolation is a common tactic used by abusers. 4. **Physical Harm:** Any act of physical aggression—hitting, pushing, or threats—is unacceptable and should not be ignored. 5. **Fearful Atmosphere:** If you feel afraid in your own home due to someone's anger or unpredictability, it's time to seek help. Let’s raise awareness and support those affected by domestic violence! 💜 #EndDomesticViolence #AwarenessMatters #SupportSurvivors

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, threats, financial abuse, and emotional abuse. The frequency and severity of domestic violence can vary dramatically. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. This equates to more than 10 million women and men during one year. If you or someone you love is experiencing domestic violence, please call 1-800-799-SAFE to receive confidential help.

This short film by Made by Mortals sheds light on the impact of emotional and psychological abuse—showing that abuse doesn’t have to be violent to be severe. Many have described it as “like walking on eggshells.” One powerful comment under this video reads: 💬 “There is something fundamentally wrong with any relationship when ‘they’ leave the room, and you start to feel better.” 💡 Let us recap some key points we’ve explored so far during 16 Days of Activism: We’ve been highlighting why language matters when talking about domestic abuse. The words we use can either empower victims and survivors or unintentionally place blame or minimise what they go through. Here are some examples we’ve discussed: ✅ Instead of saying “domestic violence,” say “domestic abuse” or “domestic abuse and violence.” ✅ Instead of “failed to report the abuse,” say “did not feel safe or able to report the abuse.” ✅ Instead of “hard to reach,” say “marginalised or underrepresented.” These shifts might seem small, but they make a big difference in creating a more compassionate and informed society. 🧡 If this video resonates with you, know that help is available. You don’t have to suffer in silence. Our helpline advisors are here: 08000 194 400, providing confidential guidance 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. #16DaysOfActivism #OrangeTheWorld #OrangeWolves #LanguageMatters #NoExcuse
