How often does a pre-revenue brand secure a launch with 45 SKUs globally in Whole Foods Market?
When Olowo-n'djo Tchala is behind the brand 🇿🇦🇹🇬
Olo’s latest brand AYÉYA truly embodies his tireless dedication to always doing good. This brand empowers women in Africa to bring hand-crafted and Fair-Trade home & personal care products to the U.S through West-African methods.
Olo’s leadership & impact-focused supply chain secured through his first brand Alaffia have empowered the West African community - 17 schools built supporting 18,000 students (with a 90% graduation rate!), funded thousands of safe births, and employed 250,000 women over the past 20+ years. These numbers will only continue to flourish thanks to AYÉYA.
Even more remarkable though is Olo’s heart of gold. This man is on earth to create and do good, and each person that has the privilege to meet him feels his love & authenticity.
Beyond excited to be supporting AYÉYA, Olo, Chris Robb, and team with this incredible legacy they’ve built!

Congratulations to the entire AYÉYA and JellyShot team! This accomplishment is a testament to how collaboration strengthens us, especially when we share a vision of advancing sustainability. It’s inspiring to see companies coming together to make a positive impact on our planet.
Key Takeaways for Business Growth:
1. Regional Expansion:
Tapping into agreements like AGOA opens doors to new markets.
It's a reminder that Kenyan businesses can thrive by scaling beyond local borders.
2.Fashion as a Global Opportunity:
Wandia has hired over 500 staff and generated more than $8M in revenue.
This proves that African fashion is not just a trend—it's a serious business vertical with potential for global growth.
3. Data-Driven Decisions:
She uses footfall counters in every store to track conversion points—a key metric for growth.
Measuring every step of your customer journey helps make smarter decisions.
4. Bringing Others Along:
With initiatives like Shopzetu, she’s creating platforms for new entrepreneurs.
It’s a lesson in collaboration—bringing diverse players into the brand ecosystem strengthens the business.
5. Innovative Leadership:
Hiring a fractional CEO who works one day a week allows Wandia to build capacity without overextending resources.
This innovative approach to leadership shows the importance of adapting new models for scaling teams.
My aha moments
What struck me most was how confidently Wandia Gichuru shared her company’s revenue and growth goals—a rarity in our culture where discussing such figures is often avoided.
By being transparent, she underscored the seriousness of the fashion industry and its potential to generate export revenue.
Wandia’s goal is to reach $50M by 2030, a vision she’s already planning for through five-year strategic plans.
She sees fashion as a driver of economic growth, with ambitions to list Vivo on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).
The Power of Confident Speaking and PR:
Wandia’s presentation was not just informative but also engaging.
Her passion was evident in her delivery, supported by well-prepared slides.
For any entrepreneur, how you present your story is just as important as the story itself.
Speaking confidently, sharing your vision openly, and backing it up with data builds trust and drives the narrative you want to share with your audience.
This is where PR and public speaking converge—crafting your message is essential, but delivering it with conviction ensures that it resonates.
As I reflect on her message, I’m reminded that innovation isn’t just about the next big thing—it’s about making bold moves, speaking up, and thinking globally.
That’s how we, as entrepreneurs, thrive.
Lessons from Wandia Gichuru: Innovating and Thriving in Fashion and Business
At the 2024 #BigBaraza, one of the most powerful speakers was Wandia Gichuru, the CEO and co-founder of Vivo Activewear .
Her keynote resonated deeply with the theme of the event: "Game Changers: Innovate and Thrive."
What stood out was her emphasis on leveraging regional agreements like AGOA, SADC, and COMESA to expand her brand.
For instance, her decision to enter Rwanda and Uganda markets was part of a deliberate strategy.
But she didn't stop there—Wandia shared her experience of opening a store at the Essence Festival in the U.S., which is a prime example of a Kenyan business breaking into global markets.
Her vision? A future where Africa dresses herself, not just as a concept, but as an industry.

In a powerful statement, Fulvio Pagani of Grupo Arcor emphasizes the urgent need for #CEOs and business leaders to take action and address societal issues such as economic inequality in #LatinAmerica and beyond.
"It's time that we address economic inequality and the role of the private sector in perpetuating this issue. We must initiate conversations, find solutions collaboratively, and work as a united society to tackle the challenges faced today and in the future."
Many business leaders agree —it's business' responsibility to lead the charge. Let's engage in meaningful discussions and explore innovative solutions that can foster a more equitable society.

The last few days in Kenya have been absolutely transformational. Hearing a group of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met voice how clearly they see my vision—and how they plan to use their expertise, knowledge, network, and experience to make it a reality—has been one of the most humbling moments of my life.
I knew this was my ultimate BHAG (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal): to create a scalable model of comprehensive and holistic sustainable development in rural communities, addressing the intersection of climate, health, education, clean energy, and economic empowerment.
Co-created with our local strategic partner, the Kadana Foundation, and further enhanced by a powerhouse team of community facilitators, marketers, storytellers, and global trade experts, we are pioneering a new approach to sustainable development. Blending social enterprise with community engagement at its core, we are charting a path forward to transform lives and drive lasting impact.
