XR Sports Alliance: no OEMs, no content, no operators, one framework We’re pretty sure that if you ran a poll of where priorities lie in the video industry, forming another industry alliance would be pretty low down the list, if not rock bottom. Nevertheless, industry alliances continue to be born at a rapid rate—usually a sign that technology companies are huddling together for warmth to weather an ongoing storm more than evidence of fierce innovation. But not always. Newly delivered by the stork is the XR Sports Alliance, a joint effort of chip giant Qualcomm, video experience developer Accedo.tv, and HBS, a sports broadcaster turned consultancy. #sportsstreaming #broadcasting #video

Envisioning through the lens of Sony's creativity and technology, here we present three stories that depict the future as an extension of our lives today. #multilayer #world #creative #entertainment #future #physical #virtual #realities

Qualcomm looks to sports to drum up ‘extended reality’ interest Qualcomm has teamed up with video service software provider Accedo.tv, and specialist sports broadcaster HBS, to found the XR Sports Alliance. For Qualcomm, this is an attempt to dictate the roadmap for the underlying technologies needed for these new experiences, which will rely on mobile devices to capture and convey the action. Our sister service Faultline summed the initiative up wonderfully succinctly: “no OEMs, no content, no operators, one framework.” It is early days, of course, and Qualcomm is certainly a big enough name to coax some cooperation from the industry – from those sniffing around what could be a very engaging new type of entertainment experience, in ‘Extended Reality’ (XR). #XR #extendedreality

Imagine getting to watch a high-profile football match, broadcast live to your TV in exceptional image quality. That's exactly what Danish fans got to experience thanks to Ericsson's pioneering trial held in partnership, 3 Denmark, TV 2 Denmark and Sony. Transmitted over 3's 5G SA network, Ericsson leveraged cutting-edge mmWave technology to enable exceptional speeds and reduced latency, so that fans could enjoy the international friendly match with superb picture quality and free from any interruptions. ⚽ By tapping into existing 5G networks, the need for extensive cabling and set-up is significantly reduced. This flexibility allows camera operators and photographers to be more mobile, capturing moments they may have previously missed. 📸 What I find most exciting is the opportunity to have many times more 5G cameras to capture the action from a large variety of camera angles and creating immersive, unforgettable experiences for the fans. How do you think 5G cameras and reduced setup requirements will change your viewing experience? Let me know in the comments! 💬 #TeamEricsson #5G #Connectivity #MakeItMemorable #FanExperience 🔗 Ericsson, 3 Denmark, TV 2, and Sony kick off live broadcast
