WJEC have now released the specification for their new Sustainability in Action qualification. https://lnkd.in/evPG6utS I've read it through and, although I think that the content is what should be taught in schools anyway, for some students it might be important to hold a sustainability qualification specifically. I was particularly interested in the "amplification of content" column in the framework, where WJEC give examples of how to address a learning outcome and the assessment criteria. Pages 48 and 49 address Learning Outcome 8 "Understand the benefits of sustainability at home, in the workplace or in school or college". The WJEC suggestions are far too fluffy in my opinion "removing paper cups from water stations" and I don't think will help learners to understand real climate mitigation actions....so I've put in my own suggestions in the table below. The left hand column is the current WJEC examples and the right hand column is mine. Where there's a blank cell I've agreed with WJEC. Really interested in what you'd add as well/instead. I know I've left things off. Helen O'Sullivan Ian Chriswick Liza Lort-Phillips Dr Morgan Phillips Jen Gale Patricia Xavier Bryony Bromley Meryl Batchelder

Today, I completed the open university’s online course- Climate change: transitions to sustainability. Learning about the importance of societies striving for environmental sustainability and adaptability amidst unpredictable climate changes was enlightening. It highlighted the critical need for these transitions within the broader context of globalisation. The course delved into the various dimensions of globalisation beyond just the economic aspect. It shed light on the political, social, cultural, and ecological facets that play a crucial role in shaping discussions around environmental change and sustainability. Exploring the diverse perspectives on the correlation between globalisation and the environment was eye-opening. From 'business learns' sustainability to 'radical break' with globalisation and 'sustainability steps,' each viewpoint offers unique insights and approaches to achieving sustainability. Examples such as corporate sustainability reporting, ecological tax reform, and initiatives like the Forest Stewardship Council exemplify these different paths. I look forward to expanding my knowledge around this area with the aim of ensuring a more sustainable future. #sustainability #climatechange #openuniversity #environmentalsustainability

Wow! It's another day to learn and relearn about Sustainable development goal(SDG's) advocate programme cohort 2 powdered by SDSN. Climate solutions and environmental sustainability: Climate actions simple means the act of mitigating or adapting to climate inorder to cushion the effect of climate actions. Design Thinking is a key skill to adopt inorder to provide sustainable climate and environmental solutions. Design Thinking: it simple means the act of choosing a problem that is already in existence and attacking it by providing long lasting solutions to solve them. Note: We as individuals, private sector practitioners, public servants, civil society members and citizens of the country should always think of innovations that can provide sustainable solutions to our present and next generations to come. @SDSNYouth @SDSNYouthNG @SDSNCanada @SDSNCH @SDSN_Germany @sdsnusa @SDSNNE @UNSDSN @UNSDGWorld @UNSDGLearn @UnsdsnTurkey

In March 2023, sustainability officers, faculty, and vice presidents of research from colleges and universities across all 50 states joined federal government officials to share ideas and approaches for scaling sustainability and climate action. A new report shares findings and ideas from that meeting where Director of Sustainability Julie Newman represented MIT's efforts. The report invites readers to explore the "innovative sustainability and resilience solutions being developed, demonstrated, and taught on campuses and how these solutions can be expanded to and implemented on other campuses, in the surrounding communities, and beyond." https://bit.ly/3KVfeDs
