"GYAAN" #Knowledge / #awareness / #realisation / #understanding / #cognition / grasp A #value that should be priced the most in #society, yet we take potshots at people saying, "Gyaan mat dijiye!" [Do not give me knowledge!] I have had at least one boss who took huge pride in making this statement with some of my colleagues sniggering in approval. Possibly they were hiding their own incapability and lack of cognitive ability behind this statement. My views on this growing distaste for "gyaan" in society, #business and everyday #communication. Dada, Amazing thought ! I feel (on the other side of the coin) the bigger problem is - we have too many Gyan-Givers! People who are far from attaining wisdom-halos! And these people dont stop the rant - too much advice overwhelms the other side; and with lack of relevance and too many examples - the quality of advice suffers. And when the 'sufferer' has too many people giving Gyaan, the barrage of advice seriously hampers critical thinking!
Very timely - Look at Trump’s return in America! It was not difficult to predict that America was set to be trumped again but I never knew it would be such a ‘No Brainer’. What is more difficult to fathom is that a majority of the Americans (the masses across the board!) felt so cornered that they were forced to be super economical with reason!
Sobering article, Avik. One sees this in so many areas of life now. Organizations that are not willing to invest in longer term, everyone wanting returns NOW or at the latest, this quarter. It is impacting the mental health space as well because organizations are unwilling to use the research and gyaan of others if it means sacrificing short term gains even for long term profitability.
Well said Avik. Lee Iococca once said 'In a perfectly rational society the best of us would be teachers and the rest of us will have to settle for something else'.
As always, a most interesting read 👍
Hahaha superb.
very well articulated and that NAseeruddin reference was amazing !
Very thoughtful article Avik. I wonder how this transition from a society which gave equal importance to Gyan and Action has transitioned into a soceity giving overrate the importance of Action to Gyan. My Gyan is that this is society’s natural process of bringing balance as we were too much of knowledge and Bhakti soceity in the last century. This is just the opposite of what western society was.
Not without reason that Knowledge and Experience are spoken of in a pair, with Knowledge preceding Experience. Over a period of time, the gains are in transferring the Knowledge bucket into Experience bucket, however not as a zero sum game as Knowledge bucket can be filled infinitely

1moWell written as always AVIK. But X saw a flood of eulogies and stories shared about him, surprising many. Bibek in spite of his brilliance and amazing body of work, leaned towards current govt and probably for that he became only a ticker news for content czars of MSM. Also Gyaan/strategy unless it’s executed, Is meaningless. As Ram Charan always says “execution itself is strategy”.
