Archer Aviation announced on August 13, 2024, that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Future Flight Global (FFG), a relatively new executive aviation operator, for the sale of 116 Midnight electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. This order is worth $580 million, at Midnight’s catalogue price of $5 million per aircraft, and takes Archer’s existing order book near to the $6 billion mark. Interestingly, unlike many other eVTOL order announcements which do not include any cash transfers, this deal includes the placement of an initial deposit by Future Flight Global as well as a $5 million pre-delivery payment. How will the new FAA regulation impact the future of eVTOL operations? The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has introduced a Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) to facilitate the safe integration of eVTOL aircraft into the U.S. aviation system. This groundbreaking regulation lays the foundation for companies like Joby Aviation and Archer to launch commercial passenger services once their aircraft receive type certification. Unveiled by FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker at National Business Aviation Association-BACE 2024, the new rule represents a significant milestone for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). Whitaker emphasized that safety will remain the FAA’s top priority as they work to integrate innovative technology into the existing airspace. The SFAR is set to pave the way for powered-lift aircraft, the first new aircraft category in nearly 80 years. The regulation covers key aspects such as pilot training, certification, and operational requirements, ensuring a safe path for instructors, pilots, and operators. The aviation community, including major players like Joby, Archer, and BETA TECHNOLOGIES, welcomed the news as a crucial step towards wide-scale AAM operations. What are your thoughts on the FAA’s efforts to support the future of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft? Archer Aviation given FAA’s airworthiness criteria for Midnight eVTOL aircraft In a major milestone, Archer Aviation has received the final airworthiness criteria for its electric vehicle takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft Midnight from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The airworthiness criteria, published on May 24, 2024, set out the direction in which Archer must now travel to achieve Type Certification and eventually transport paying passengers. “The FAA announces the special class airworthiness criteria for the Archer Aviation, Inc. This document sets forth the airworthiness criteria the FAA finds to be appropriate and applicable for the powered-lift design,” the FAA airworthiness criteria read. Fantastic developments for the Embraer E-Jet E2 platform. While large jets and single aisle aircraft get much of the attention, E-Jets are workhorses with excellent economics. These enhancements to the E2-Jet family are excellent. Embraer indicates the improvements “deliver a net present value of US$6million per aircraft over 15 years in cost reduction and additional revenue.” https://lnkd.in/e322Sx2m

The latest from The Air Current: Embraer will introduce a system to automate the takeoff of its E2 jetliner family, a major technology step forward that expands automation to a phase of flight that throughout commercial aviation history has been exclusively controlled by human hands. #staycurrent

✈️ New fixed-wing aircraft capable of zero emission flight (ZEF) have the potential to transform the UK regional aviation market, but ZEF aircraft will require significant changes to the supporting aviation ecosystem in order to operate. Connected Places Catapult is therefore launching the Connected ZEF Airfields project. Building on our previous infrastructure work, we are assembling engaged stakeholders to consider wider operational, business and safety considerations for airlines and airfields. We will then apply these to real-world UK case studies, with the aim of accelerating the UK’s adoption of ZEF for regional flight. We are seeking collaboration with stakeholders, including airports and airfields, manufacturers, and aircraft operators, as well as those involved in ground handling, finance, and hydrogen generation and distribution. Electric #aircraft could take off soon, but where will they charge? NREL studied this question for the Federal Aviation Administration and found that vertiports will need a serious amount of power and updated infrastructure to charge #eVTOL aircraft. But the authors also found key decisions to save on costs and simplify vertiport rollout. Read on: https://bit.ly/3TqRoEE

Ever heard of a BUTTER LANDING before? In aviation, a "Butter Landing" refers to an exceptionally smooth touchdown, where an aircraft lands so gently that passengers might barely feel it. This term is often used colloquially by pilots and aviation enthusiasts to describe a landing that is executed with great skill and precision, minimizing the impact with the runway. Executing a butter landing, in my opinion, involves maintaining a stable approach with consistent speed, while initiating a gentle flare to reduce the descent rate, and gradually reducing throttle to idle for a smoother touchdown. 📹: Aviacoin #aviation #aviationlovers #aviationdaily #aviationworld #aviationgeek #aviationeducation #civilaviation

The biggest hurdle for most aircrafts will be the certification by this high standard
When we describe our aircraft, the word "safety" immediately comes to mind. However, the phrase "10-9" may not ring a bell for many! It is the safety standard level in aviation at which we will certify our #VoloCity aircraft. It means that the VoloCity can only have one critical failure in a billion flight hours – a prerequisite by EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency to ensure our aircraft is one of the safest modes of transport to currently exist. How safe? Once certified, our VoloCity will be as safe as a commercial airliner. XTI Aerospace, announced last week that Mesa Air Group, the holding company of regional air carrier Mesa Airlines, is purchasing up to 100 TriFan 600 aircraft, reports a press release. If all conditions are met and the order is fully exercised, it could represent close to USD1 billion in revenue for XTI. Mesa is also becoming an investor in the aerospace company with warrants and a minority stake in company shares. Scott Pomeroy, Chair and CEO of XTI, commented, “We are excited to have secured this conditional pre-order and position from Mesa Airlines and believe it serves as further validation of the substantial and untapped market for our aircraft. With a maximum speed of 345 mph and a range of 700 miles, we believe the TriFan 600 will be an ideal alternative to existing aircraft for regional passengers.” https://lnkd.in/eDKajc-K #XTIAerospace #MesaAirGroup #TriFan600 #AerospaceTechnology #MesaAirlines #AviationIndustry #FutureOfFlight
