As he approaches his practical driving test toward the end of his programme, Tamas has found his apprenticeship really enjoyable, and he has gained a lot of knowledge and insight into the world of driving. Initially undertaking this apprenticeship to learn a new skill, Tamas is now thoroughly invested in a driving career, excited to begin it with his employer. Any challenges that were thrown Tamas’ way, he found that he was able to overcome them with the help of his Vocational Skills Coach Michelle, from LCG, who he found to be a very valuable and helpful asset throughout his learning journey. Last week our Managing Director, Emma Speed, had the pleasure of visiting Emtec to see the educational initiatives and innovative work being done there to support the next generation of automotive professionals. The partnership between Emtec, Gemini Accident Repair Centres, and Mac Tools is a shining example of how collaboration can elevate the learning experience for apprentices. During her visit, Emma was presented with the Auto Raise toolbox, designed as part of the MacNIFICENT Toolbox design competition. This unique competition challenges Gemini ARC apprentices to not only repair and paint toolboxes provided by Mac Tools but also to bring to life their unique toolbox designs, blending technical skill with creativity. But this competition is about more than just skill development—it's also about giving back. The uniquely designed toolboxes will be raffled off, with all proceeds benefiting various partnering charities. This not only highlights the apprentices' craftsmanship but also their commitment to making a positive impact in the community. Emma thoroughly enjoyed the visit; "It was fantastic to visit Emtec and see the great work they do with apprentices and see how a partnership with Mac Tools has benefitted their learning journey. The Auto Raise toolbox looks brilliant, and we will be using it to raise funds and awareness of the charity. Auto Raise aims to close skills gaps in the auto body shop industry, by working with large and small businesses to fill them with apprenticeships.” Auto Raise is committed to expanding apprenticeship opportunities and supporting educational initiatives that benefit both young people and the automotive sector. Meet The Team – Jed Wollen This week’s meet the team is with Projects Engineer - Jed Wollen. Jed has been with us since he started his Engineering Apprenticeship at 16 and having recently completed his training, has progressed into his role as Projects Engineer. We took some time to find out more about Jed’s role and what life is like outside of Ergro… Why are you still at Ergro? “Some may say I don’t have a choice (haha) but really, it’s the amazing team I work with in projects, everyone’s there to achieve the same thing and all have the same work ethic and drive to provide a quick and professional installation for our clients.” You have recently finished your apprenticeship, how is your new position as a Projects Engineer? “The good thing is it doesn’t feel like anything has changed, this is mainly due to the likes of my Manager and other Senior Engineers having always given me the opportunities and responsibilities of an engineer to always keep me ahead of the game and push me forward to becoming the best I can be.” How was your apprenticeship? And would you recommend an Ergro apprenticeship to a friend? “My apprenticeship was very good, the team at Choice Training are very good at what they do, going above and beyond in teaching us at college but also I wouldn’t have learned the on-site bits if it wasn’t for the combined 100 years+ of experience held by Garry and Mick (Senior Engineers) who have taught me and are still teaching me everyday everything I need to know. Offering apprenticeships to school leavers and young adults is a crucial component for companies to ensure that their workforce is inclusive and sustainable – which is why we are delighted to welcome Leo to our workshop, mentored by Les our senior mechanic 🛠️ It’s no secret that the highways sector isn’t the most attractive industry to young adults who are fresh out of school or university and looking for employment – and it shows in the current skills gap that this sector faces. It is however, important to show that there are a variety of career opportunities in this field, with great career progression. Leo kindly took the time to talk to us about why he chose to work at Kiely’s through the apprenticeship scheme. Jake, our final apprentice to highlight this week, is one of our vehicle technician apprentices. His experience showcases the value of apprenticeships. Despite initially exploring the retail sector after leaving school, Jake discovered his true passion in learning a trade with us 👨🏭 Throughout his apprenticeship journey, he has gained skills on how to repair and maintain vehicles, as well as lessons in teamwork and personal development. He embraces the diversity each day brings, where he works on various vehicles, including street sweepers, providing him with hands-on experience and invaluable insights from seasoned professionals in the trade 🚗 For Jake, the apprenticeship has been an incredible opportunity to earn and learn simultaneously. He emphasises the importance of gaining real-world experience and how it has boosted his confidence. Jake believes an apprenticeship offers one of the best opportunities for personal and professional development, especially for those who thrive in hands-on environments. As Apprenticeship Week draws to an end, we turn our attention to Celebration Friday.  Today, we're honoring the remarkable achievements of our apprentices who have completed their qualification, like Aaron Patel, who completed his Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship with Distinction last year. We're thrilled with how seamless Aaron’s transition to a permanent Sales/Purchasing Administrator role with PermaRock has been. His dedication and accomplishments exemplify the success of our apprenticeship program.   We caught up with Aaron who said “Balancing my time between working at PermaRock and attending online classes for my apprenticeship has been a challenge, but with careful planning, it's been manageable. The apprenticeship has equipped me with valuable skills and knowledge, which I've been able to apply directly in my role at PermaRock, from managing my workload efficiently to effective communication with colleagues.   PermaRock has been supportive, allowing me time during the day to focus on coursework and providing invaluable insights into the business for my presentations. With their assistance, I've successfully completed my apprenticeship, and I'm now able to utilise what I've learned to excel in my job. Most of the names on that list are at the top of their field in the craft they chose for themselves. They. Worked. Hard.
