Joint Office of Energy & Transportation Supports All with SAE J3400 EV Coupler Recommended Practice https://lnkd.in/gPu5qmyS auto connected car newsTo make electric vehicle (EV) charging easy and reliable, it’s important to have a charging network that is safe and simple to use. This starts with having clear rules for the technology used. That’s why the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation worked with the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) to create a guide called the J3400 EV Coupler Recommended Practice. The J3400 standard helps ensure any vehicle can work with any charger, and federal minimum standards for network interoperability open the way for any charging hardware to work on a different software network. 🚛⚡ Redefining Fleet EV Charging: No 480V AC? No Problem! For fleet operators, electrification offers immense potential for cost savings and sustainability. But a common hurdle arises: what if 480V AC infrastructure isn’t available, and battery supplementation isn’t an option? Here’s how you can innovate: 1️⃣ Level 3 Charging Optimized for Fleets Leveraging 30kW or 60kW charging systems allows efficient charging for vehicles with predictable duty cycles. By scheduling and load balancing, you maximize power distribution without overloading your existing infrastructure. 2️⃣ DC Fast Charging without a Step-Up Transformer Power Innovations International can offer rapid charging at locations without 480V AC by transforming lower voltage inputs into the required DC output. This tech is evolving fast and is ideal for time-sensitive operations. Electrification doesn’t have to mean massive infrastructure upgrades. By embracing creative solutions, fleets can transition to EVs efficiently, sustainably, and cost-effectively. 🚚💡 Are you exploring charging solutions for your fleet and do not have 480 3-Phase power? Let’s talk we can help. https://lnkd.in/g86SaM6n #EVCharging #FleetManagement #Sustainability #Innovation #ElectricVehicles #evcharging #evchargers #powerinnovationsinternational

Power2Drive Munich thoughts (1/4) - EV charger commoditization I just spent three days at the largest EV show in Europe. Here are my thoughts: EV charging hardware is undergoing rapid commoditization. About 40% of the trade show was filled with Chinese manufacturers. Many of them offer great quality products at incredibly low prices. As EV electrification prevails and the OCPP standard matures, more value will shift from the commoditized charger to the software and algorithms managing large-scale deployments. This is why choosing a charger-agnostic, OCPP-certified management system such as Wevo Energy is becoming more critical than ever. A new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) standard, SAE J3068, aims to streamline data and power sharing between EVs and the grid, potentially benefiting both drivers and utilities financially. Developed by University of Delaware professor Willett Kempton and his team, the V2G standard addresses technology and policy gaps hindering V2G adoption. By equipping EVs with enhanced communication capabilities, it enables bidirectional power flow, allowing EVs to serve as grid batteries. Pilot projects, such as one with Delaware-based utility Delmarva Power, will test the standard's implementation.
