The UK van market continues to see a growing influx of new competitors, particularly with the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs). While it's encouraging to witness this level of interest in advancing the #LCV & #EV sector, it raises an important question: has enough attention been given to the after-sales process for these vehicles? Too often, I work with customers managing van fleets who face significant challenges when it comes to arranging servicing, warranty support, and general maintenance. Many find themselves relying on car dealerships that may lack the necessary capacity or specialised facilities to properly maintain the commercial vehicles they’ve purchased. While opting for certain manufacturers may offer initial cost savings, businesses must consider the long-term impact of factors such as parts availability, extended service hours, ramp access, and the expertise of qualified technicians. These are critical elements that should be factored in when selecting your next supplier. Fix Small Problems Before Selling Another good habit to get into is fixing small problems before you sell a used car. Most dealerships will do their own repairs on used cars before reselling them. But it is still a clever idea to make sure any small, affordable issues are resolved before putting your car on the market. Mentioning these repairs in your vehicle listing will also be appreciated by most buyers. Car maintenance is important to ensure its long-term performance. To say this customer was lucky is an understatement!!! Initial complaint was : steering wheel and vehicle doesn't feel right. Car just drove on the freeway at 110 kph before arriving at our workshop. The customer has a young family & no awareness of vehicle safety (plenty on our roads are the same) It was a miracle that tyre did not blow out while driving, the result of such an event can be life changing for anyone involved or close by when it happens. I did my best to share tips with him to make sure it doesn't happen again. I stressed the free checks he gets every 6 months or 10,000k with the tyre car plan from mycar It can be done at any store and it won't take long, if you can't check yourself please use a professional service that can. We all can make excuses why we are too busy to do things, BUT you may not get a second chance. If something doesn't feel right get it checked ASAP. It says a lot about the intellect of people who bought into the story about EV's being cheaper to repair. How could anything that is loaded with tech and has ZERO aftermarket source of spares be cheaper. The reason ICE cars are actually very cheap to repair is that you aren't tied to the dealer for spares or repairs. EV's are a captive market. I love this quote "It is hard not to conclude that it is a very brave person who buys a used five-year-old Renault Zoe." I have never bought myself a car newer than 10 years old and generally run them beyond 200,000miles.
