Stellantis has 22 electric models, but how are they selling? Stellantis offer a very large range of electric vehicles across their many brands. With this they are still very strongly against the current UK legislation that production of all new vehicles with combustion engines will need to be ceased for 2035 or 2030. These sales figures can help us to understand why. The question is where does this leave commercial vehicles? Europe's policymakers urgently need a pragmatic, actionable roadmap for sustainability that balances green goals with industrial resilience. The current push risks being overly ambitious, potentially leading to de-industrialization, crippling key sectors like automotive and steel. Instead of sweeping measures, the focus should be on practical solutions that drive sustainability while preserving Europe's industrial strength.

I read the news today oh boy!.. ‘Nearly a third of major passenger-car plants from Europe’s five largest automakers — BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, Renault and VW — were underutilized last year, producing fewer than half the vehicles they have the capacity to make, according to a Bloomberg News analysis of Just Auto data. Sites shutting down would add to concerns that the region is facing a protracted downturn after falling behind competitors’ Ouch!🤔 ‘Perfect Storm’ aka an especially bad situation caused by a combination of unfavourable circumstances… The question is, how much of what’s happening could have been anticipated, and how much of it is a total surprise to everyone. Without doubt, on multiple levels, it’s a ‘banquet of consequences’ moment - so what’s to do? German automaker Volkswagen delivered 189,400 all-electric vehicles in the three months through the end of September, marking a drop of about 10% from the corresponding period last year. The company witnessed most decline in EV sales in the U.S., followed by Europe. While EV deliveries in the U.S. fell by nearly 42% to 11,900 in the third quarter, deliveries in Europe dropped 12%. However, in China, EV deliveries rose 5.2% to 57,500 units. The group’s best-selling all-electric vehicles in the period were Volkswagen ID.4/ ID.5 and the ID.3, the company said, with the Audi Q4 e-tron following close at heel. Overall, Volkswagen delivered about 2.2 million vehicles globally in the last quarter across fuel types, marking a drop of about 7% from Q3 last year, owing to a significant drop in sales in Western Europe and China, its primary markets. #Volkswagen

Stellantis PLAN....to fully electrify their Chrysler and Alfa Romeo brands by 2028 and 2027 brands respectively. Will it revive either, after decades of struggle?? Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram brands have been in the news recently, for their dismal performance versus the market. Dealers are NOT happy and for good reason. Alfa Romeo and Chrysler all-electric strategy is a huge gamble, same for others including GEELY's Group Lotus, Polestar, others. Volvo Cars has backed off it's 2030 all-in EV deadline, shifting to hybrid options. It's a shame, given Alfa's history and attractive product in the past, but they MUST improve quality dramatically. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares has emphasized that EVs will have to be affordable for the middle class and said "around $25,000" is the sweet spot. Moving to this price point will be low margin, but opens the door to brands not currently under buyer consideration. Getting to that price point with enough required product content/features will be a MAJOR challenge, along with current infrastructure/other BEV challenges. PLEASE NOTE: We are currently soliciting for OEM, DEALER GROUP, SUPPLIER, SaaS contracts/other projects. Feel free to reach out to me directly. 416.993.9356 colin@omniautosolutions.com #automotive #automotiveindustry #innovation #branding #technology #business #leadership #electricvehicle #ev #hybrid

The midsize sedan market is starting to look like the midsize pickup market from ten years ago when many manufacturers shifted focus to full-size trucks. Ford discontinued the Ranger and GM paused production on the Colorado and Canyon. That lead to limited competition and Toyota's dominance with the Tacoma. Today it looks like Toyota is again leading the way by sticking with the Camry as many of its competitors have chosen to focus on SUVs and crossovers.
Toyota executives say they will remain steadfast in sedans because they see opportunity there — even as others exit car segments.

https://lnkd.in/gG3YMZxf “ (Bloomberg) -- Ryan Xu was a dream customer for Germany’s automakers. The Guangdong-based entrepreneur and her husband own a Porsche 911 and a Mercedes-Benz G-Class and were among the first buyers of the electric Porsche Taycan. But her views on German cars have soured as Chinese consumers increasingly favor tech refinement over traditional selling points like horsepower and handling. The software systems in the Taycan, which costs well over $100,000, were “terrible,” the 36-year-old mother of three said. It was “just an electrified Porsche — and that’s it.” Her assessment isn’t isolated. As China moves away from combustion-engine cars, Volkswagen AG, Mercedes-Benz Group AG and BMW AG are struggling to offer electric vehicles that appeal to customers in their largest and most lucrative market, putting €35 billion ($38 billion) of investment on the line. The latest warning signs came last week, when all three German manufacturers reported slumping third-quarter sales in China. BMW posted its steepest sales drop there in more than four years, a 30% plunge, and Mercedes’ deliveries declined 13% amid poor demand for its priciest cars, including S-Class and Maybach limousines. Porsche’s sales in China tumbled 19% to its worst third-quarter performance in a decade as global demand for the Taycan nearly halved. Volkswagen — the parent of Porsche and Audi — reported a 15% decline. “The competitive situation in China is particularly intense,” said Marco Schubert, who oversees sales for VW. After dominating the gas-guzzler era, German manufacturers became complacent, underestimating the threats posed by new rivals and reluctant to abandon the profits generated by big-engine cars. That allowed Tesla Inc. and local manufacturers led by BYD Co. to speed by with tech-savvy and affordable plug-ins, and now China no longer needs or wants them there.” ….. …..

⚠️However: "The automaker said its order book remains stable versus the end of 2023 and orders for full-electric vehicles more than doubled in the quarter versus the same period last year." ➡️The Volkswagen Group has made substantial investments in BEVs and must not miss opportunities in entry-level segments, while maintaining competitive pricing in other BEV segments where it is present, both in the European and Chinese markets. ⚡Navigating BEV/ICE price parity challenges will be tough for everybody, mainly for legacy OEMs. Volkswagen Group's BEV orders increase on Q1 is a good sign. Volkswagen Group warned it may close the Brussels assembly plant of its AUDI AG brand due to a sharp drop in demand for high-end electric cars that has hit Europe's top automaker, forcing it to cut its margin target for the current year. Automakers have been hit hard by lower-than-expected EV demand after investing heavily in capacity and technology development, with Audi warning earlier this year its sales would dip in 2024 as it worked on introducing new models while also cutting costs. https://lnkd.in/emRyfMvW

SMS Leads: Daily 5 report for Sept. 13: The GM-Hyundai collaboration benefits could include cutting costs among others: We close the week with reaction to the announcement that General Motors and Hyundai Motor Co. are exploring cooperating across a range of technologies and vehicles. Though the two automakers offered few details and no time frames for any tie-ups, their Sept. 12 joint announcement covered a swath of areas for potential cooperation, from passenger cars and commercial vehicles to new engines, battery raw materials, electrification and hydrogen technology. Benefits could include cutting costs and achieving scale, analysts say. Also uncertain is the future of Stellantis' Belvidere plant. The UAW's new contract with Stellantis last fall looked like a big win for Belvidere, Ill. But the cloud that appeared to have been lifted settled again over the idled assembly plant —and the town — when Stellantis in August said it was delaying its proposed reopening. The automaker insists it remains committed to following through on the deal and is disputing accusations that a postponement would break the bargaining agreement. We'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one. Meanwhile, after recent doldrums, venture capital investment in transportation technology is perking up, and the Toyota stop-sale of the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX is now expected to end in late October after Toyota determined that modifying the side-curtain airbags will bring the vehicles back into compliance. And finally, be sure to check out our spy art of what will likely be the most powerful Corvette yet. That's it for today. Have a great weekend. http://dlvr.it/TDDdxl www.carsbuytext.com
