Lest we forget. Thank you to the men and women who have and continue to sacrifice to ensure our liberty, freedom and security. We pay tribute to the ANZACS who fought side by side.

Love this GCHQ All hiring managers and employers can *proactively* invite job-share arrangements into their candidate pool. It doesn't work for everyone, but done in a thoughtful way by the organisation and the job-sharers, there's such a brilliant set of wins to be had. I've been lucky enough to work around lots of job-shares, and have valued i) two perspectives ii) a blended skillset iii) continuity through a full week rather than overstretching a single person who's only been paid for a part-time position iv) employees who come to work and go from work calmer, more relaxed and with more energy because they're sharing the time, the load, the need to occasionally vent! v) keeping great people in the workforce (incl at senior levels) who might otherwise be lost because the pressures aren't manageable vi) seeing people thrive when they access jobs they thought might be out of their reach If you do this thoughtfully it will be more expensive - usually 1.2 FTE rather than 1.0 or even 0.8. Two sets of training, performance processes, management time etc. But it's still worth it. It'd be great to see orgs energetically offering this, and also promoting it to current staff who might like to change their arrangements in future.
Emily and Vicky are blazing a trail for women at GCHQ. Both mothers, they share the role of Deputy Director for Counter Terrorism - leading teams helping to stop terror attacks on the UK. It's the first time the job has been done in this way, allowing them to balance their important work responsibilities with their equally important family commitments. They spoke to Sheerluxe and shared the advice they’ve learned along the way - and why their work is so rewarding. https://lnkd.in/edpZ5CA3

"Weapons sales and transfers should be understood as part of war-making. Additionally, expanded consideration should be given to the non-lethal, or not immediately lethal harms caused by these weapons in policy debate, ethical, and theological-ethical reasoning about these actions. ACT NOW! We need the power of the people to fight H.R. 9495 & ensure that nonprofits can continue providing services and advocacy at this critical time when our communities are under attack. This alarming piece of legislation in Congress, H.R. 9495, would allow the government to designate any nonprofit as a "terrorist supporting organization," & then require that organization to prove itself innocent to avoid revocation of its tax-exempt status. The House of Representatives is scheduled to consider H.R. 9495 this week, with a vote likely on Wednesday. While intended to be anti-terrorism legislation, all people served by nonprofits should be concerned about the dangerous precedent this bill could establish & the potential for abuse by the Executive Branch. Please take action now! Take Action: Tell Congress to OPPOSE H.R. 9495 1. Visit the IS Action Center to sign a petition to oppose H.R. 9495. 2. Call your Congressional Representative TODAY and urge them to vote NO on H.R. 9495 when it comes up again for a vote. You can find contact information for your Member of Congress here. And the list of California representatives who already voted yes on previous votes here. 3. Social Media Engagement: Post on your platforms and tag your Representative to urge them to oppose H.R.9495.

As we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the #GenevaConventions this year amidst over 120 armed conflicts worldwide, we must continue to emphasize that wars - all wars - have limits. #IHL - which lays down these limits - remains crucial and relevant in today’s conflicts. As technology advances, we witness new means and methods of warfare causing death, injury and destruction for people caught in the middle: #CyberOperations, #AutonomousWeapons and the use of weapons in #OuterSpace have become a reality in contemporary armed conflicts, as has the dependency of civilians and civilian infrastructure on #ICTs for almost each aspect of daily life. Yet there is no doubt that #IHL continues to regulate all means and methods of warfare, traditional or modern, cyber or kinetic. A good time to re-read the below series of short papers:

May is Military Appreciation Month - so it's a great time to remind military troops who have served and seen combat that they may qualify for a tax credit. 📌 But the filing deadline is coming up for some troops. 📌 https://loom.ly/x1ilkBg You can file online or complete and mail Form M99, Credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone, for the year you served. You file Form M99 separately from your income tax return. To receive this credit, you must: ► Include required documentation with your form ► File Form M99 within 3½ years from the original due date of your income tax return 💡 The credit for months served in a combat zone from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020, will expire on October 15, 2024. If you spent additional days in a combat zone after the due date, you can add the number of additional days plus 180 days to the initial 3½ years. ✍ EXAMPLE: If you served in a combat zone in 2019, you had to file your 2019 Form M99 by October 15, 2023. Starting on June 1, 2020, you spent 60 days in a combat zone. You would have an additional 240 days to claim the credit (60 days plus 180 days). Therefore, you would have until June 10, 2024 (240 days after October 15, 2023) to file the 2019 Form M99. 👉 To complete Form M99 for a previous year, go to Find a Form: https://loom.ly/V99VFIg 🤔 Still have questions? 📞 Contact your team at Carefree Bookkeeping for more insight and direction.
